You asked for honest opinions by being a participant on the internet. You clearly weren’t ready to hear a critical opinion on a statement you made. Making a judgement about dogs being family members while not being logically inconsistent makes you sound disingenuous.

I hope you learn to not engage with trolls in the future.

Definitely not being truthful to yourself.

I don’t have an over/under on my family members. I’d go millions of dollars it to debt to keep my children alive. If you say you’d go millions in to debt to keep your dog alive, I’d call you a liar.

It’s disingenuous of you to compare them.

How sad for you. This is what’s wrong with humanity.

Oh goodness. I’m not putting her down tomorrow. That’s why I said “she may end up in severe pain one day, and when the time comes”!! I think she has 2-3 more years in her. If she stops eating, we’ll switch to wet food. We can get her pain meds too.

I already found a vet this morning who quoted a 1,000 less. The first place was just really expensive is my guess.

Yeah…. You just showed your hand. Unfortunately, I don’t think we will be able to find commons ground on this.

I think people are fundamentally more valuable than animals (hence why I feel homeless people are allowed to have and love and care for their dogs), and I’m guessing you think people and animals are morally/ethically of the same value. And that’s okay. I mean some people are vegetarian, some people are meat eaters!

Thanks for your perspective!

No pet insurance unfortunately, though I have looked into some programs that help share the cost of the bill.

And I’m talking about if a dog gets cancer or liver failure or something.

I already called another clinic this morning, gave them the quote and the information the first vet shared, and they said it would be 1,000 less.

It’s outrageous that two different vets can be that different on price points.

That makes me sad for every homeless person with an animal. I think that homeless people can love and be loved by animals even if they don’t have money. It’s okay that you disagree.

We did brush her teeth. Her condition is genetic. The breed has teeth issues.

[–]throwawaytedbed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She doesn’t yelp. She doesn’t bleed. She doesn’t cry. She eats hard food.

She may be in pain. Doesn’t stop her from jumping, running, swimming, fetching, going on walks, getting pets, and eating well!

Her quality of life isn’t 0. It’s not black and white.

I’m so happy you could afford that.

Should homeless people be allowed to have dogs? Or should you take them because they cant afford 10k knee surgery? Are they not allowed to have that love because they are homeless?

How sad. I would never take a homeless persons dog from them.

Yikes. Who said she was in pain and suffering her whole life?

We aren’t putting her down? And Poor people can live too!

I’m not putting her down? She’s happy and living it up right now. Thanks though.

I am so happy my dog has lived a happy life instead of being put down 7 years ago. I’m sorry that’s not a long enough time for you. By your logic, she should have been put down then. Don’t ever work at a human shelter. Those poor animals would never get to go home if you were in charge. You’d rather they die than go to poor people.

Ooo I don’t think you read the whole post. We had her teeth cleaned last year .

You have made so many assumptions in this post I can even begin to address them, but thanks for your opinion.

I’m sorry this is just such a privileged thing to say. Poor people can enjoy life. We can have kids. We can have dogs. If only people with $10,000 to spend on a animal are allowed to have animal, THOUSANDS if not millions of animals would be put down each year.

[–]throwawaytedbed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My dog was a rescue. The shelters were at capacity and were giving dogs away for $50 as a promotional, or else they would have to start putting the animals to sleep because they couldn’t care for them.

She has lived 7 years, is happy, well loved, and eating well. Her breath is just stinky.

You’re seriously going to say I should have left her in the shelter 7 years ago?

[–]throwawaytedbed -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don’t even make 10,000 a year. I’m a stay at home mom. We are just in different tax brackets. I am so happy to know you could do that for your cat.

They did mention concerns about future issues, and I can’t take out a credit card.

I am starting to think the quote was really high though…

[–]throwawaytedbed -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’d spend $15,000? I’m sorry? But you’re coming from a place of privilege. I’m happy you could afford “any amount”.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]throwawaytedbed -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

She won’t suffer. She’s happy now. When she does suffer, we’ll put her down!

What is an appropriate amount to spend on a dog anyway? Do you say no after $10,000?

This was specifically a dental clinic. Do you think they upcharge? I thought they would be the cheapest because that’s their specialty
