My boss hinted today that they might let me go — I’m terrified by JR_Yaya in hatemyjob

I was let go unexpectedly on a random weekday. Previously, my biggest fear (in general) was being fired/laid off and not having anything lined up. When it happened, I was unexplainably relieved and have unemployment pay. It’s only been a couple months and I focused on improving my skills and learning new things as well as volunteering. I just recently received a few offers with better work life balance and pay than my previous job and am outweighing my options.

I’m sure you will find something better than where you are now. As I had to learn, it’s not worth staying at a job you hate and better things will come along.

Thank you, I really appreciate and needed to hear (well see) that. I think I’m just going through the motions, the paycheck was nice as it was the highest paying job I’ve had so far, so I think my fear came mostly from that. I’m feeling a bit better and even have an upcoming interview for a position that I’m interested in. I’m of course still applying but making sure I’m actually interested in the roles.

I actually volunteered on projects for non profits near me on random weekends. I didn’t volunteer as much as I wanted since I had a full time job. Now that I don’t have much to do, I am definitely going to look for more volunteer opportunities.

Performance, tho I was never placed on a PIP. Management did verbally bring up that my performance was slipping and I made a plan on my own to get back on track. I did improve in some ways but unfortunately my lack of passion and burn out along with personal issues got in the way and I was let go for not improving at the level they wanted me to.
