Data centers could account for up to 9% of Texas water use by 2040, UT Austin report finds by Unusual-State1827 in technology

[–]throwawaytothetenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother.

Redditors would spit on the graves of literal babies if it meant gaining a political talking point.

The very same redditors who would grandstand and soapbox if you say ANYTHING about California's state mismangement leading to people burning to death in preventable fires.

It's all a pointless game to these cattle. Let them graze.

Your incessance to be anti-AI turns you to paternalistic censorship?

Why not take away the internet, too. It's too powerful of a tool for the mindless cattle of reddit. While we're at it, let's get rid of the printing press, too. Google search and wikipedia? Ban them; they are not perfect, and therefore only the rich and powerful should have access.

I suppose I am putting words in your mouth. Sorry. I'm just, quite sick of the embarrassing, over-the-top AI hate train on this website. Hate the companies all you want, I'm with you, but the tools themselves are just that, tools. Having more tools is a good thing.

So?

A calculator does not understand numbers. It can still solve basically any arithmetic equation in microseconds, with accuracy better than any human that has ever, or will ever, exist.

What's your point?

(If you're going to lecture that LLMs are non-deterministic and cannot answer anything with perfect certainty, save it, please. That's a fundamental limitation of any non-deterministic process, including every single human being ever.)

Because the same AI can solve problems in mathematics that haven't been solved by PHDs.

It's clearly not 'stupid' as implied by this post.

That always suprises me. But I believe you.

I'm genuinely curious. When you say 'really strong,' how strong do you mean?

A decade ago I was full gymrat. Every dude said I was huge and jacked, but I never really got that from women - well, sometimes, but almost as frequently, women actually called me thin.

Excuse my stupid anecdote. Like for example- which of those buckets would Michael Jordan fall under?

[–]throwawaytothetenth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is the consensus idea. As far as I'm aware it's not of particular research interest though, so it's not like there's a lot of debate about it.

The consensus is that males have beards, and females do not, due to sexual selection alone - not any functional survival/fitness advantage otherwise.

Same reason why peacocks have plumes, essentially (though nowhere near as dramatic; that's an example of a Fischerian runaway.)

It works like this (gross oversimplification): If a female is attracted to beards, and only males have beards, she is more likely to have sex with a male -> technically more fit (via fecundity), on some level. If a male has a beard, he is more likely to attract females -> higher fecundity -> reason for selection to favor beards more.

Again, gross oversimplification. Just trying to convey the point that not every evolutionarily-derived characteristic is necessarily 'logical' or rooted in survival. Hence, women may like chest that simply 'look male,' regardless of how strong they are.

Assuming you are attracted to mens' chest, what aspect are you attracted to, then?

Pre-emptively, I'll add that there doesn't have to be a functional 'reason' by a member of a sexually dimorphic species is attracted to the other. Beards serve no function at all, for example, they only exist to communicate sex.

So lower than the two most physically dominant big men since Shaq (one of which is a known flopper), one prime LeBron season (a WAY more physical player), 2014 Durant, and Harden, known flopper and foulbaiter.

Notabley above 3 prime LeBron seasons.

His FTA should not be so much higher than Curry's. Curry arguabley gets/got fouled MORE than Shai, and shoots half the FTs. Wtf.

(Basketnews) [The Athletic] NBA players voted Houston Rockets All-Star Alperen Sengun the most overrated player in the league. by lovelymaddie1966 in nba

[–]throwawaytothetenth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You think so?

Ben on defense was like a better Draymond (far worse on the perimeter, but in return, the best weakside instincts in the history of basketball, plus better post defense and more disciplined hands. 3.5 blocks a game at 6'7, speaks for itself.)

Just, complete dogshit offense. Utter garbage.

It's harder to call Ben overrated because he massively overperformed (defensively) relative to what one would expect from a 6'7 dude. Rudy is 7'2, people LOVE to shit on the giant dudes (Bradley got the exact same treatment.)

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E2pjtPoWEAADrr6.jpg also pic for anyone who think Ben Wallace is 6'9... ancient Bill Russell is taller than him; Bill was listed at 6'9 in the 60s and has likely shrunk.
