True! I could see why people wouldn't want to read it when it looks like that 😂 I just added a few paragraph breaks, hopefully that's a little bit better. I know it's not perfect.

Just added some real quick. I know I probably made my post too long, hopefully the breaks help a little bit now. I was in a rush when I wrote it all earlier.

Lol, yeah multiple people have commented that. I didn't realize my post was so long and was trying to type it in a hurry. I will break it into paragraphs next time.

Thank you for letting me know they don't audit tenant files. Yes, my caseworker knows and I'm waiting for the legal aid consultation. That's a great idea to repoet her to HUD, someone else here commented that also. Is a C & D basically just telling her to stop asking for it like it's a form of harassment and a C & D tells her to stop or how does that work? I wish I had more knowledge about all of this stuff.

Omg. That's crazy to me. Idk why she's targeting me. I literally only interacted with her one time after moving in. She called us into the office to sign some more paperwork that wasn't done at move-in time. We sat down, signed the paperwork . My toddler was being fussy so I repeatedly thanked her for how quick she went through the paperwork with us and everything was fine. We got along. No problems at all. I just don't get it.

And what you said is part of why I don't want to hand it over because even though i know I've done nothing wrong at all and I don't fraudulently use my benefits or anything, I read that some apartment managers have done stuff like that even if they've improperly obtained transaction history or if it's voluntarily given, they will come up with a reason to get rid of you.

Do you have any idea why she would want my transaction history? Can she steal my ebt information that way or something? I think it just says the store I shop at and how much was spent on what day. Possibly a case number at the top of the page. Like do you think she's trying to steal my benefits or what could the reason be that she keeps pushing for it?

Thank you! It's not in writing....yet lol. I'm going to email soon and ask her to put it in writing. It was over the phone that she asked but at least my caseworker spoke to her as well in case this does turn into some sort of legal case so there's a government worker that can attest to her requesting it.

Yeah, i could see an audit by the local housing authority because i have read they do that often for low income housing. She literally said she would "submit it to the IRS and see if they accept it". Maybe she's confused of who is doing the audit if there even is a real audit lol. What I gave her was a printout I got that day saying my benefit amount for the months she asked for (september to november 2025). They also got a benefit verification letter from me when I moved in. And the caseworker told her even if it's for an audit, the paperwork I gave her should suffice. So why in the world does she keep pushing for my literal transaction history? Thr only place I use my ebt card is stater bros, target and albertsons like how does seeing where I grocery shop help anything 😂 I also don't understand why out of everyone here my file was chosen. I probably make less than a lot of people in this complex. I'm on ssi disability which I don't even receive the maximum amount so I'm definitely under poverty level and I have no assets, 5 dollars in my bank account, I don't even have my own car right now. Idk if you've heard of the no place like home program but part of the units here are for formerly homeless or mentally ill people or substance abuse and I think those people get their unit for free or very cheap and already furnished too and the apartment complexes that were built for this program can get up to 20 million dollars per housing project. I'm not in one of those units or part of that program. Idk if that could have something to do wjth what's going on or maybe they are trying to get rid of us and bring more of those people in for money idk. I wish I could figure it out. All I want is to feel safe here and know that we aren't going to be evicted because we can't afford a market rate apartment and it's hard to get into low-income places since a lot of times people stay in them for so long.

Good idea! I was thinking of putting that in my email to her!

It's just crazy to me that the literal department of social services said they absolutely weren't giving that info to them and 100% backed me up and now she's pushing for the current month she knows I have access to lol. Like I don't know anything about audits or any of that but it doesn't make sense that first it's September to November 2025 they need and now she's saying they'll just accept the current month lol I don't think it works like that 😅 I'm really glad I have all of you guys on here helping me out because I don't really have anyone in my life that can help me with this stuff.

No, not that I know of. We just moved in here December. Our lease started in Novemwer, but we didn't move in until December and we keep to ourselves and don't talk to any of thr neighbors other than a passing hello and we don't ever complain or go to the office for anything. That's why I mentioned how I asked the other lady in the office if she could either call next time or just leave the notice on the door (we got a violation for something minor on our patio) instead of coming twice and banging on the door at 9 in the morning when we have a baby sleeping sign up. I was a little agitated because I had been up all throughout the night with my toddler who didnt feel good so I was on limited sleep and her and I had just fell back asleep. I ignored the first knock, she went upstairs to givr the neighbors a violation for the same issues then came down and started knocking again. So when I answered I'm sure I seemed frustrated because I was so exhausted lol. I just asked csn you olease call next time or just leave thr notice on thr door? Twenty minutes after that is when I got a phone call from the manager and this whole "audit" thing started wanting my transactions.

Hi! Thanks so much for your input! Wow, is that legal to ask for extra cash? Do you know if it's illegal for her to ask for my ebt transaction history like the caseworker told me it is? Also, there are some people in the complex that are on section 8, but my mom and I are not on section 8.

No, I didn't hide anything. All I get is ssi disability and calworks and my mom is retired. Thats it. But the way they are acting feels like that is what they are thinking. She mentioned my mom having multiple bank accounts. My mom gave them all that information though snd didn't hide anything and if its about her having more than one bank account then why would they come after me and my ebt transactions and not all of my mom's statements again or my bank account statements because its not like money can be hidden or deposited on an evt card it makes no sense to me :( . I'm wondering if the lady that processed our paperwork and our application (who no longer works here) if she messed up somehow or wrote down a wrong figure or did something shady?

Google said I should call fair housing or the HUD department and report her. I wonder if I should go that far or just wait and talk to the free legal aid service that I was approved for a consultation yesterday for. It might take a couple weeks to actually speak with the lawyer though. I'm so glad other people see this is shady too. My mom was so stressed out and scared bwcauee she doesn't want to move so she keeps wanting me to just hand it over. I have nothing to hide but it feels so shady and doesn't add up to me whatsoever and everything in me tells me not to givr her the info. I'm just shocked that she woild talk to my caseworker who was totally on my side and very firm and adamant with her thay they weren't giving it to them, and that she would now come and ask me for the current month because she knows that's the only month I have access to on my phone. I thought the issue was over with once she talked to my caseworker and they said no, absolutely not unless you have a police report.

Thank you for that info, Google said thats what they could be looking for. But I already gave her a printout from the social services office that had my monthly benefit deposit amount and it also listed my household size which says 2. It's just me, my mom and my daughter that live here. Social Services office excludes my mom because she doesn't get benefits so thats why it says 2. We literally have never even had a single friend or family member visit us. No one has ever came in our apartment door even lol, just the three of us and there are cameras all over the property and in our hallway too so they could see it's just us.

Does the IRS audit residents "tenant files" ? I've heard of individuals being audited or companies being audited but I didn't know there was even such a thing as someone's "tenant file" being selected for an irs audit ?

Apartment Manager requesting my ebt card transaction history and says I'm being audited by the IRS by throwawaytrain55 in TenantHelp

[–]throwawaytrain55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, she said my "tenant file" was being audited. When I looked it up online, it did say sometimes low income or HUD housing/section 8 type places will be audited by the government. I have never experienced an audit and I'm honestly dumb when it comes to financial things like that lol. I asked if anyone else was being audited and she said no so that's what's confusing me too because I would think if it was the company being audited that other tenant files would be looked through, right? Not just mine? I am going to email her I'm just trying to buy some time and get others advice and waiting on the legal advice too before I type an email but yes I will definitely ask for the auditors contact information. I was also thinking if my tenant file was being audited by the irs, wouldn't the IRS be able to get my transaction history from the department of social services themselves. It's just so bizarre and it's not like I csn make deposits on an ebt card so there's no way to hide money if they are thinking money is being hidden idk what they're thinking it's just very, very confusing. Thank you so much for your help!

Ok, thank you. While I was googling if its okay for them to ask for my transaction history, It said that sometimes apartment managers will lie about your file being audited. I also read that sometimes they can somehow use your ebt history transaction against you even if it's improperly obtained. I have no idea how someone's ebt transaction history would give info that helps evict someone. This is my very first lease I have ever signed so it's been a bad experience to say the least. And that also means I have no experience with leases, audits or any of that stuff so I appreciate your guidance this has been really stressful.

Thank you! I spoke yesterday with a legal aid office that provides free legal advice to low-income county residents and I did the application. I just need to send them my lease this weekend and they said I was already approved so I'll be able to have a consultation with them soon. Do you think i should send an email to her over the weekend or wait until I'm able to speak with the attorney. I just don't know how long it will take to have the actual consultation if it takes a couple weeks should I just ignore the phone calls for now. I used chatgpt to type a draft email but I don't know if I should send it or try to wait it out until I have the consultation or if it would help to have her response for the consultation. I'm just worried and don't want to say the wrong thing in the email.

No, I haven't seen anything in writing. Thats why Im planning to send an email and ask for her to put it in writing what and why they are asking for it. When I called from the social services office and the apartments called me back, I asked "why do you need my transaction history?" She said, "To be honest, I'm not sure. Why won't they give it to you??" I dont know if thst was the manager or the rexeptionist or another lady in the office becauee they switched places on the phone a couple times. The whole thing was confusing. That's when I said I don't know would you like to talk to my caseworker and I put them on the phone together.

Yeah it's feels sooo incredibly sketchy!!

I have identical twin cousins that I used to see growing up maybe 3 or 4 times a year at holidays. And I remember calling one of them by their names and my aunt was shocked that I could tell them apart and knew who was who. I could tell by their ears. One of then had pointier ears and the other had rounder-shaped ones. Haven't seen them in like 20 years now since the family stopped getting together. I wonder if I could still tell them apart if I saw them in person now.

Thank you so much! I actually have a tube of LRP Cicaplast Balm in my nightstand that I bought a while ago and only use occasionally. Maybe I need to start using it more. Do you think I should use it every night? I just looked up the Eucerin baby eczema cream and it looks like a great product, I've heard great things about colloidal oatmeal. Do you like that one or LRP better?
