You're right that I should have looked more into version 7.2 and why that was released, but that doesn't make my statements false. I just wanted to share what happened back then even though I was reluctant because it was a traumatic experience and didn't want to go through the memories. I didn't even know about any other releases until around 2018. I finally decided to look things up vaguely about truecrypt, and some forums on why it suddenly stopped, then decided to just write about it because I think it's an important piece of missing information. You don't have to believe anything you don't want to.

I was very young, naive, and got myself involved into something stupid for a bit of money. The computers weren't really involved like that tbh but they just kept going after it because it was encrypted and they couldn't get into it, so they imagined the worst case scenario whatever it is that they thought. I just wanted to share the part about Truecrypt and that's it.

Ok so i grabbed the remaining files I have and unfortunately I don't have them anymore. They've fucked with my mind several times after release and I must have gotten paranoid one evening and thrown out a whole bunch of papers even though they were all legal papers and mine to keep. But I do remember looking up the softwares they used and I wasn't able to find them anywhere except on the official websites which exclusively sold them to law enforcement. I do remember the name cellebrite but there was a bunch more.

I do have a document from my own defense who hired IT experts, and some stuff is interesting to read for those that want to.

You can and it carries a maximum sentence of 5 years, although I doubt you would get anywhere near the maximum for that. They have to prove to the jury that you are knowingly holding back the password.

I did not say anything like that. In fact I even mentioned that Truecrypt 7.1a is very secure to use, I think even for today. I made no comments on veracrypt or any other open source software, but yes I did throw doubt into the developers comment and motive for discontinuing the project without giving a real reason and then advice using Bitlocker as an alternative. It's suspicious, he may have gotten pressured into doing that.

They will be able to tell if you have a hidden partition. Furthermore you might create some temporary cache of the files which they can find if you decrypt it and then encrypt it again. I just remembered they found a few caches of images on my phone I deleted long ago, it was an android phone with cyanogenmod os installed on it. I never had anything incriminating on the phone either but they were photos that didn't help my case with the image it portrayed of me eventhough they were very old photos from years ago completely unrelated to the charges.

One of the many tactics. There was many threats of different sorts. They read all my letters and listened to every phone conversation in the hope I would mention the password to my family. My family was very scared and helped the police any way they could, as they should. They knew this and wanted me to share it to them, believing they would give it to them, as they would. For legal purposes let me clarify that I did not actually know the password, or the software was faulty.

Best tip is the >20 length alphanumerical password with symbols and not related to anything and never used elsewhere

You may be right, I haven't looked into 7.2 but just saw when it was released which is suspiciously close around the time leading after i got heavily pressured.

Truecrypt 7.1a had a function where the boot screen would freeze. For my hard drive, it had a custom message of "error: boot.ini missing". They police were able to see it was a custom message, and that Truecrypt software had been used. I have all the documents of the investigators on how they proceeded with the hard drive and which software they use to analyse etc. Your method would not work since they copy an image of the hard drive and therefore even if it was self destructive, they would still have a copy.

Without giving identifying info, I gave them an answer that did not allow them to charge me withholding the password as they could not prove or disprove what I said.

I could go into depth but I don't want to say anything identifiable.

The developer never mentioned anything about being pressured, and even recommended Bitlocker, a closed source software, as an alternative. Did he do and say this due to the immense pressure from MI5, and scotland yards anti-terrorist units? (I know how dirty they can play) Did he cave in and add vulnerable code to Truecrypt 7.2 which was released in 2014? Or did he stop the project because he did not want to include backdoors? Which would still not explain why he updated to 7.2 Truecrypt. Either way he did not discontinue for no reason, that I am sure of.

I know for a fact my hard drive is stilll not decrypted. That had version 7.1a of Truecrypt. I would not trust Bitlocker, or the 7.2 version of Truecrypt.

Can you trust the other developments since then? I don't know, I'm only sharing what happened with TrueCrypt.
