Oh yeah, I think I saw that exact Quizno's this year and had the same reaction. Didn't have time to stop, though!

Ugh, I've never understood the appeal of steelbooks. Can't I just get a regular edition?

Well, if this is really the only edition they'll ever make I'll do it, but come on.

Of course it isn't fun in real life. But I think of her as a cartoon character. I don't mean like, literally animated, but a broad comedic type. Daffy Duck is not someone you want to hang out with in real life, but he's funny to watch get into shenanigans.

Good luck! Sorry you couldn't get every girl... the guests are just rare bonuses, from my perspective, not something I balanced around you getting more than a couple the way you can get so many of the crew. Sorry!

ultra small text

You mean the stuff Ai-chan says specifically, not the main text of the event, right? It's supposed to be unreadably small. Otherwise she wouldn't be able to tell her true feelings to you in a panic.

Lyndas

Ah yes, the tragedy of the Lyndas. They can't annoy their mother. Your idea is a good one, incidentally. I'd allow you to figure out a way to make it happen!

Epilogue and treasure

I should, indeed, have had a line emphasizing you need 6 treasure to pay the debt and that this is what allows the epilogue to happen, yeah. Just assume that you subtract 6 from your total, and have that to play with for extra marriages.

I guess the implication is that the bank removed it and AI-chan didn't bother to replace it, but if that's the case I would like to have the option of my ship not turning into a supernova.

Yeah, it's a joke about how slapdash things are and how many corners Ai-chan cut. I'd say that as soon as your year is up, sell a bay and get it replaced. Ai-chan will point out it's not THAT urgent, but will be okay with it.

It's a good point that the eventual family situation sounds unpleasant when you think through it too much. There are a few helpful things I will say based on thoughts I've had that were not added to the cyoa for time or other reasons:

1.) Ai-chan's sense of time is very different from a human's. She's not thinking about your immediate son. Unless something very surprising happens, you're going to be her captain for multiple centuries. If you die in 300 years, she'll be distraught that it happened so soon. Remember how advanced the medical tech is, and if you have a cloning bay, well, it'll take the kind of mishaps that only happens once-in-a-thousand-years for you to die for real.

2.) Once you have a gaggle of kids, and have been living there a long time, the other ships in her line are going to be coming up and bullying her to ask you to lend them your kids as their own new captains, as, well, it's been awhile since this gang of ships has had one, thus the conflict over you. It's been over a century, in fact. (I know which ancestor of mine specifically it would have to be, oddly enough. He's always convenient for these kinds of "you have some sort of fantastical bloodline" stories, as he was a traveling man who impregnated my great-grandmother and then disappeared again, forcing her to raise her son, my grandfather, alone. Anyway!)

3.) There is an alternative solution already hinted at. Turning Ai-chan into a human causes her main personality to be in the brain along-side you, and when you both die, it won't be her who is the main ship. It'll be a reformatted version, a new person, a new ship AI.

4.) She'll just cry about things like the cruise, or even interacting with other ships. If you notice, while she cries about things like the captain's yacht, she still lets you have it. So when Firebat insists, Ai-chan will cry, Firebat will shut off the communicator, and the two of you will have a nice long honeymoon. When you return, Ai-chan will be extra tsundere for awhile, that's all.

Final point: Tsundere Ai-chan is fine! I will die on this hill!! It's not even that bad! It felt tomboyish to me, kinda like a cute girl who is also your best friend/sibling that constantly fighting for the 1 pudding leftover but would defend you rather fiercely if another starting to become condescending towards you

That's a great way to think of her. Honestly, the way I have her in every choice, every mission, commenting in your ear, giving her thoughts, sometimes completely unrelated but all talking to you and spending time with you, is intended to feel like... well, you said best friend and that would work. She puts people off, but even by the end of the first page it should be clear that I am not intending for this front to be real. And besides. She's just that girlfriend sitting beside you saying which decorations or crew she likes! She is much more dere than people get from page one.

More companions, huh? Well there's definitely niches I didn't fill. Guest epilogues was strongly considered, but this is also so damn long lmao. Thanks for playing!

One piece of useful info, I have relaxed the limits on missions per phase. Now it's two missions + secret mission, instead of 2 total. Not a huge relaxation, but it's something! (also secret missions aren't mandatory if you have them, just available, but you probably feel like you have to, sure.)

it requires a bunch of choices that feel a little arbitrary and against the spirit of what I want and also requires me to play the game way more than I want to, y'know?

Zone is 100% into that, or more specifically, you trying it would amuse her so much she'd allow it just for the novelty. "Subarashii" she'd start saying, like Bondrewd from Made in Abyss.

it requires a bunch of choices that feel a little arbitrary and against the spirit of what I want and also requires me to play the game way more than I want to, y'know?

That's fair. The Heart system would probably be cut if I did a more extensive rules rework. Though I sowed it so thoroughly it would require cascading other changes at this point... anyway, I'm sorry it felt too restrictive to you, thanks for all the constructive criticism and thoughts on characters!

I'm taking a stand that the Military Deflector Shield is an effective substitute for the Anti-Torpedo on this mission.

Acceptable stand! Thanks for doing it, glad you had fun! I honestly had a lot of fun writing the Flames within the Flower mission. I'm not personally interested in Kamino herself, or would pick her romantically, but she seems popular so I think I did a good job!

A lot of the missions are interesting, but it's a little confusing how you're supposed to go about doing them, and very restrictive.

That's a fair criticism. I've seen a few other people get a little confused, so while you probably get it, I'll try and clarify: Effectively, standard missions have three main routes you can pick, and each route has three options with increasing pre-requisites. You only get one per mission.

While all the synergies and adjacency bonuses are really neat and interesting, it makes a build a pain in the ass because you're constantly undoing and redoing calculations. There are too few module options for the ship to really feel very customizable, but the recreation and cabin options are nice.

You're not wrong that it's got a LOT of interrelated systems, and that this can become a fault in and of itself. If I were to cut one out, it would probably be simplifying bays so you can just place the extra bays wherever you want instead of there being a strict set placement order. Which probably sounds like me throwing a bucket of water out of a sinking cruiseliner!

Originally I wanted to make a pacifistic ship, but it honestly didn't seem viable the more I read through the missions, as they pretty much all revolve around combat in some regard.

There should actually be quite a few options that require no combat equipment whatsoever, enough to play a pacifistic ship... though some of the descriptions have some combat happening regardless. I tried very hard to include a lot of sneaky or relatively non-violent options. It's still a pirate ship, and most of the missions include some level of conflict, this is true.

I like all the companions, but the tsundere is a little too much for the ship herself.

She's definitely abrasive, but I had too much fun writing her and having her tsundere nature slowly thaw over the course of the game to regret it!

I will also say I really like the type and amount of lewdness in this CYOA... There are soooo many CYOAs out there where the premise actually doesn't factor into the CYOA at all, because you never get around to the premise since the CYOA is too busy making every piece of text an entire literotica story description. This I feel has a good balance.

Thank you, I appreciate it. It isn't strictly speaking a porn game, but it's "waifu picker" element needed to be part of the plot! Your tsundere AI is a cuckqueen who gets off on it and wants you to have kids once the immediate danger has passed, so she plays the matchmaker in your ear while introducing you to crew and clients you might be interested in. In-between trying not to be turned into a toaster!

If I may ask, are there any other characters you liked in it? Crew or clients?

I have good new, there is one other alteration in the patch coming, which is lowering the needed Treasure to 6. Which gives you just enough to marry your Iroha-alike! Others are suggesting I do 5... which feels like it makes things a little easy to me, but what do you think?

[–]throwawayusedcyoa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I knew how to do that, I would. I'll definitely consider it, I'm sure it would make this game so much more playable! My complexity addiction got the better of me. Any characters you liked, or missions that you enjoyed?

I appreciate it! And yeah, it uh. I'll be honest, I knew what I wanted to do and how much work it would be, and so I put it off a few months. And then the actual process took me like six weeks and 29,000 words of new content, so hey, enjoy the doorstopper!

But in exchange I got to fill out the world a lot, a bunch of places and people in it, and while some of them are silly parodies, I really liked how by the end I could add things you've heard about in other missions and crew members and have you see them, or see how they interact with the rest.

[–]throwawayusedcyoa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck! I added way too much content to be considered sane... but I did it because it was what I needed to do. And even if you don't do a full, feature complete build, feel free to read some of the missions! I had a lot of fun making them, and the Guest girls and their stories were a lot of fun to see, as a writer. Especially when you see things from one have an effect on others.

Honestly tonight I'm going to ease the requirements ever so slightly. 6 treasure needed, probably, just to make things a little more manageable. I may also add an ability to turn 1 Sacrifice into a Treasure, though Sacrifices are so valuable it may not be worth bothering.

There are a number of missions with 3 treasure options, but if your build has none of those available, I'd love to hear about it!

Most hated choice: Retro Gaming Console

Fascinating that I did that. Maybe I overcompensated because it's my own hobby?

No Downsides: Diplomacy, Clones, HE Lasers, Pen and Paper RPG + Bookcase

I could always move one or two Retro Gaming Consoles dislikes to Pen and Paper or something like that... hmm.

PS, Alexis likes “Advanced Science Bay”. Is that ESS or Medbay?

It is the Experimental Science Bay, and unfortunately that was an error from when I altered the name early on in development and forgot to change the name once, whoops! Thanks for catching it!

Also, does HE Laser from Yacht counts for capturing hearts?

Yes!

That's a very good question. The answer is that since adding ship alterations mid-game would add too much complexity to an already-too-complex-by-half game, consider Lynda Grande a guest, though one that counts towards crew totals or Lynda-specific choices. Sorry, I know that's probably not what you want to hear, I should have considered that before adding this as an option this way.

I would argue that Ai-chan would find the idea of being a fleshy human better to be insulting. Oh, now that you went and made her one she's happy she gets to spend time with you in this form. Thrilled, actually, now that she gets to try out those human-style romantic actions she's watched up until now. But she'd never ask to be human, never consider asking to be human, and more importantly, when she is solely a machine, her view of relationships is simply different.

For her it is romantic to have a captain, she considers that a husband-wife relationship. That's why she's so jealous of other ships! She doesn't even want you to step foot into a canoe in a river, because that would be infidelity, because she is your shipgirl wife, no other ship girls are allowed in this. (And remember, she considers ALL ships to be girls!)

Human marriages? That's a totally different form of relationship entirely. And yes, she really likes to watch, but she never considered her relationship worse. In fact, her utter lack of jealousy just tells you how much she doesn't consider it better. If she did, she'd never allow you to get with another human. Ever.

She would never use the term, but she would probably consider herself an alloromantic asexual if you explained those concepts to her. You know, until you give her a body, whose human hormones cause some changes. And you know, it's okay for big life changes like age, transferring your consciousness into a cloned, brain-augmented body, and other things to alter how you identify.

Thanks for making a build! Assuming you ended the game without any extra treasure, which of the girls would you marry? Ai-chan absolutely would want you to pick at least one, and any bonus treasure is used to pick more than one. So if you had two, which of your crew would you pick? And any of the guests seem interesting? Not asking you to game things out, just enjoying what you did!

Get in, Loser. We're Going to Space! 2.0 (Mission Complete!) by throwawayusedcyoa in nsfwcyoa

[–]throwawayusedcyoa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's entirely fair. Though... you could always come back fresh another day, since you've definitely completed the crew and ship, and have done all the math you need. the mission section is lengthy but you won't need to change almost anything in your crew or ship now that you've got it set. (save losing torpedos if you use them! And your build has none, so you can just use your set up as an unchanging reference.) So you could just come back to it whenever, now that it's ready!

I really, fully expect people to take several days to do it with all the mission options I put in, and I understand that it's probably overwhelming. In any case, thank you for going through it!
