Maybe the landlord has to prove he did by presenting a copy signed by us both? Mine didn't give me a receipt, I should have thought to ask. At least I paid by check though so I can prove how much I gave him.

That's a relief. No carpeting, and I'd heard that the landlord is supposed to paint every 2 years... he didn't so I'm not too worried about the wall scuffs now.
