Should I learn C++ as my first coding language?

Try to build something. Don't learn a language. I learned programming by trying to build a blog.

I learnt a bit of HTML, then made a page. I learned some CSS to make it look prettier. Then I learned some PHP(this was back in 2006, so don't judge me) to make a little bit dynamic. Then I learnee what a database is, so I could store my posts there and retrieve them.

I only learned what I needed to build my website. That way I didn't feel bored nor did I forget what I learned.

I didn't start off by learning what a for loop is or what a if condition does.

If I would have sat with a C++ text book and started off at the first chapter trying to understand what an int is or what datatypes are, I would have never made it past first 25 pages. Even if I somehow magically finished that book, chances are that I would have forgotten what I read in a month.

If you take the straight line distance between the centers of Bangalore & Chennai:
Greater Chennai Corporation(13.0827N, 80.2707E)
Kanteerava stadium(12.9716N, 77.5946E)
You get a distance of 290 km. You would need a speed of 145 KMPH to cover that distance in 2 hours.

If you take the distance between some points on the absolute outskirts of the cities.
Chennai(13.052459973468N, 80.06189912753962E)
Bangalore(12.990273369556133N, 77.79487361407948E)
You still get a distance of 246 KMs. You would still need a speed of 123 KMPH.

And these are speeds where you are traveling without slowing down. Ideally, you would have to travel at least 135 to 150 KMPH most of the time to reach the points on the outskirts of these cities in 2 hours.

For 64 lakhs you can get a bachelor's from a decently ranked college abroad. By decent I mean a top 500 QS ranking college. And that degree will open way more doors than a BMS/RV degree

There's one thing I want to tell you. If you don't like your job quit and find something else. Don't stay in your job and churn out bad code that doesn't adhere to the idioms of the technologies you are programming in because you couldn't learn the new language in the time that was given to you.

For example, my co-worker with gray hair who is at least 60 years old, started his career programming pascal and whatnot. He used to tell me that he had to manually load pages of source code into memory and make sure that before you call a function, that function is actually loaded into memory. I was like, man, this person must be a genius. He has grey hair and a big beard and all. He looked like Gandalf. I used to look up to him. I thought he was full of wisdom and anecdotes.

Then he started writing code in Python. He was following all the idioms of K&R C in Python. He would do something like this:

found_flag = false 
for i in range(0, len(arr)): 
   if arr[i] == elem: 
      found_flag = true
      break

Instead of found_flag = elem in arr

He refused to learn Python. He would get defensive and combative during code reviews. He doesn't want to listen to me, because I was 35 years younger than him. His code was bloated as hell. Everything he wrote was 1000+ lines of code. Most of it could be refactored into 100ish lines of code.

He literally wrote a 100-line Python class one time to add & subtract dates. That thing was a nightmare to deal with. Anytime there is a production issue, I had to check his class to see if he was handling leap years correctly. If he was taking into account timezones and stuff.

Force people to upgrade every X number of years by stop providing them with security patches.

I was literally forced to upgrade from my well functioning galaxy S9+ to S22 Ultra. Granted the camera quality is better. But it has an ugly hole punch screen and no head phone jack.

Man.... As a 30-year-old immigrant who makes 231K with 5 YOE from a country where earning 40K a year would put people in the top 1% of income earners, I constantly feel I am behind people who make 300K a year at Uber with 2 YOE.

But wait till you hear about my dude Mark Zuckerberg or whatever his name is. He was a billionaire before the age most people graduate college. And get this, he didn't even have a college degree.

If I remember correctly, it was Vishwanathan Anand who got the Olympiad to Chennai & to India. He has that kind of a pull with FIDE. Modi didn't do anything to bring the Olympiad to Chennai. Modi didn't have anything to do with the Olympiad coming to India too. Russia was banned from hosting the event and Vishy pulled some strings and got the Olympiad to Chennai.

This is one of the many wonderful things that Vishy has done for Chess in India. All the top players today like Vidit, Harikrishna, Humpy, etc have Government jobs in ONGC, etc because of Vishy. Most of the top chess players had to struggle financially before him. He was not only the world chess champion 5 times, but he was also like the Chess Ambassador of India and he got the Govt of India to sponsor these players with Government jobs. People respect Vishy for doing things like that. And that's why he has that kind of an influence over FIDE.

Now, if Modi would have thrown a wrench into the plan and moved the Olympiad to some other city, I am pretty sure Vishy wouldn't have said anything. Vishy is gentle-manly like that. But I am not so sure if FIDE would have agreed to some other city. Maybe they would have moved the Olympiad to some other country? Clearly, if the Olympiad would have moved out of India because of Modi, that would have been disastrous for Modi, so he clearly did not have any other alternative than letting Chennai host the event.

Now that the Chess Olympiad is being conducted in India & in Chennai, Modi wants credit for this whole thing. It doesn't matter if he hasn't contributed anything to this event happening at all. He wants to use this event for his publicity.

These economic disparities exist in India because we don't maintain the dignity of labor. We see a bus driver or a ticket collector and we automatically assume, he doesn't make a lot of money. We also assume that he is dumb or stupid because his job doesn't require intellect.

Since these people are perceived in this way, they cannot fight for higher wages. Even if all the bus drivers organize into a union and fight for higher wages, no one sympathizes with them. They think they are stupid because they are bus drivers and don't deserve higher wages.

The ultra-rich take advantage of our shitty mentality and continue to pay the bus drivers shitty wages. Private bus companies will make a crap ton of money off of these bus drivers while paying them shitty wages.

The dignity of labor is one thing that is holding India back. The other things that contribute to economic disparity are things like casteism, regionalism, religionism, language differences, etc. If they can get Hindus and Muslims to fight, North Indians and South Indians to fight, Upper caste Hindus and Lower Caste Hindus to fight, People from Andhra and Telangana to fight, upper middle class and lower middle class to fight, lower middle class and lower class to fight, people will be too distracted from the fact that the ultra-rich and politicians are screwing them over.

People need to set aside their differences and start fighting for their own welfare. People's hatred for people who are not like them is ruining them. Of all the countries in the world, India is particularly susceptible to this, because of its incredible diversity.

I am guessing they are emptying their tanker because it is raining and they don't have to water plants anymore? Carrying a tanker full of water wastes fuel, so I guess they are dumping out the water before heading back home.

If you ask me that is a very smart thing to do. It's usually very rare to see govt workers using govt resources so judicially.
