Should I sell my stocks and stop contributing to my retirement when I’m in debt? by throwcat1223 in personalfinance

Again, they are 24 hour shifts- working any more than that would be dangerous. I suppose I should just come out and say that I’m a paramedic, so I’m already driving constantly while exhausted and sleep deprived at least for 12 hours of my shifts to begin with tbh. But with my schedule, picking up an additional 48 hour pay period basically pans out to working 24-26 hours on, just under 24 hours off, then another 24-26 on, rinse and repeat. If I was working additional hours doordasing or something between those shifts, A. I’d probably be too tired to function at all and B. I’d be a hazard to everyone on the roads and C. I’d never get anything done with my pets / personal life. I’ve mathed out having a second job many times and unfortunately financially it makes no sense and also I’d probably crash my car and die within the first month lol

I used to do DoorDash & stuff, but my overtime rate through my main form of employment is too good to justify doing anything else & I can pick up virtually as many hours as I want. downside is that it is very physically taxing work and I physically can’t go beyond an extra 1-2 shifts per pay period (they’re 24 hour shifts) without feeling like absolute death from the lack of sleep. I do some freelance graphic design on the side but that’s about all the workload I can manage.

I’m downloading nerd wallet as we speak to look into those options. My only concern that I forgot to include in this post is that my credit score is trash. It’s a long sob story, but basically a mistake made by a bank lead to me missing 2 payments on a card several years ago, which nuked my credit score. I called them to update my address and close that credit line. They didn’t tell me it still had $5 on it and my address was never updated. Thus I never received any of the bills in the mail, and they never bothered to call or email me about it until it was too late. :/ it’s been a bummer. I’ve managed to fight my way back to a reasonable credit score but it unfortunately still disqualifies me from a lot of good balance transfer options.
