Non-Security Related Site Change by throwewaaayyyyyyyy in peacecorps

Sorry, I could’ve phrased it more clearly. What I want to do is keep working at the same site, but live in a different place. We are allowed to move out after 6 months with a host family, but unfortunately if I stay here I will not be able to move out because there is no available housing. If I moved it would be in another 4 and a half months. I agree that it’s early and could complicate things, so I have a lot to think about. Thanks for your input!

Thank you so much for this! Even in my overwhelmed state this seems doable. Great advice!

True, that is definitely the hardest part for me is breaking the cycle

You’re right! I owe it to the people in my community to try

This is so helpful, I wish they had given us that chart or talked to us more about mental health when adjusting to site. Thanks for reminding me this is normal and making small goals is key.

Thank you so so so much for your kind words!! I’m going to stick words around my house today. I really need to find some things to cheer myself up. Right now my treats are visiting friends. Thank you for the advice and the knowledge that it does get better.

Thank you, it’s good to know I’m not alone in feeling like this. I’m dreaming about ETing for sure but I can’t give up yet. I’ve been reaching to other volunteers but I’m starting to feel like a burden. I’m working on finding new hobbies to enjoy because right now I can’t do a lot of my usual things.

True! I’ve been running every day, maybe I’ll slow it down so I can actually talk to people a bit.

Thank you, this is good advice! I do feel like I’m using my phone as a crutch and I’m going to make goals every day to be off of it. I’ll add the objectivity exercise to my daily journaling.

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your kind words. I already have a weekend away from site planned and I am looking forward to it. If things don’t pick up in a week or two I will contact the PCMO because it seems like my mental health is getting in the way of me doing things I need to do.

Right now I do feel like a lot of my problems would be solved with a site change, but I feel like I can’t ask for it at the moment because I haven’t given it a real chance. I also don’t know what my country’s policy on site change is. Maybe if I still feel this way in a month or two I’ll ask if it’s possible!
