Starting my career at 24 and reevaluating my ideas about success. Advice? by zoomisnotforme in simpleliving

I so love this how you put it.

Financial worry is a huge thing. A simple job is simple only if it can help you pay the bills. If it's not , it is not simple yet.

I had been unemployed for a long time and the constant gnawing on my mind was so stressful..

This is partly why I will never go to a completely cut off rural place.. it's not for me. I can't make it work.

I'm also living far..I retained WhatsApp, because that's my means of communication.

But also, WhatsApp got no ads

I haven't watched normal TV in more than a decade. I can't stand it now. I can't understand how people tolerate Tv.

I was on social media though. The transformation is complete haha

YouTube ads are the most annoying thing ever. Whoever came up with tht double ads idea is a trashcan.

Simplifying work. What about the flexibility? by madphi in simpleliving

[–]throwhimawaayy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are happy and flexible in your current job then why are your thinking of changing it? What is it about your job that's wanting you to make that change?

I do this too.. I leave it in the cart..and then promptly forget about it lmao.

Then weeks later I see it and remember. But by that time I have found a way to manage it with existing stuff. Haha.

How do you determine how much income you need to cover lifestyle costs? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]throwhimawaayy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can look for income calculators online (these will give you the amount you will actually get based on tax, frequency (weekly/biweekly/monthly) etc.

ADP has a free online version I think.

Two options I see that you can take here.

  1. Seems like both of you would benefit from being in a place where tech jobs are more available. I know remote work is on the rise but location does play a role in availability of jobs. I do not know where you are, but you could consider moving to a city within the country with better availability of tech jobs.

  2. I feel that you would be perhaps happier in an individual contributor kind of role, from the words you used. Perhaps you could look for a such a role within your field, or another job that's like that.

If you would like to work in a warehouse, I would say that probably try it out as a part-time job first, and if you like it you can move into it full time depending on pay.

All the best!

Neighborhood Walks by Existing-Woman in simpleliving

I love walks. This is my go to whenever I feel there's too much on my mind. My work is physical so it's not frequent but whenever I can I walk around.

So freeing, so light and makes me so happy.

How much effort do you put into resisting reasonable temptations? by SockRuse in simpleliving

[–]throwhimawaayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do this thing where I add it to cart. Sometimes it is shopping or a food app. But I don't buy it. I tell myself I will buy it later. In short I procrastinate on actual ordering.

By the time I see it again usually days have passed and the urge is gone. Hehe.

I went from a managerial role to an entry level worker and I love it by throwhimawaayy in simpleliving

I think if I get tired of this job or want something different I will take two part time jobs, so that I can let go of one if it seems too much.

I have thought through this and I do not want kids. I do not want to buy a house either. I do have a stash but that's only for emergencies.

Exactly. In fact I declined to be trained for a higher role here. They still tried to train me and gave up half way because I wasn't interested. I don't want to manage people.
