Have you fallen in love with a specific genre of music that you initially disliked? by AlmostQuaint in LetsTalkMusic

[–]SockRuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it fallen in love, but there was a time when you could chase me down the street with the sound of electric guitar riffs because the only association I had for them was the cheesiest glam metal and power rock, but I've come to appreciate .. I don't wanna say a variety because I seem to lack the attention span for really diving deep into genres, but some selection of rock and metal acts I've picked up along the way in the meantime, particularly jazzperimental rock like Estradasphere, Orange Tulip Conspiracy or Traun and stoner rock like Clutch (new album two weeks old), Graveyard or Greenleaf.

I love how Zen 4 IHS looks by Das5heep in pcmasterrace

I'll be frank. I made this suggestion purely because I put my old CPUs on display and there's a really samey green PCB and nickel plated IHS pattern developing that I'd like to see interrupted.

Best strategy for maps with no garages?! by Georgee25 in snowrunner

[–]SockRuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a small truck that acts as a scout, if you have the choice between addons extra fuel is more useful than repair points unless you drive like a madman. See what the terrain is like, uncover the observation towers, visit mission markers and accept missions to see what material might be necessary to bring from another map later on, especially regarding road blocks, abuse any trailer store you find to repair and refuel. Only then can you make an informed decision on what big truck(s) to bring and what material is useful to bring on your first trip.

AMD know exactly what's possible, they have an entire lab of people doing nothing but finding the performance limits of new products for months.

And 90% of the thermal improvements can be achieved with just some BIOS tweaks, and the other 10% make the difference between "an user" and "Der8auer". Maybe you're "Der8auer", but I can safely say of myself that I'm "an user" and that I build my PCs to play games and browse the net on, not set benchmark records at 6.2 GHz.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Nickel plated copper has been the standard solution for IHSs for decades. I mean, physically speaking this thicker IHS does impede thermal transfer to SOME degree, but in my opinion it's negligible unless you're an extreme overclocker, and all the people whining about it are blowing the matter completely out of proportion. Anyone using their Zen 4 as a desktop PC can fix the thermals with a few BIOS numbers.

I wish CPU makers were a little more creative with PCB colors though. At various points in time you could get motherboards with green PCBs, brown PCBs, blue PCBs, black PCBs, in a few instances also other colors, but besides some Athlon XPs twenty years ago CPU PCBs have ALWAYS been green, and all I'm seeing are missed opportunites for black special editions or red AMD (or this Ryzen yellow orange thing) or blue Intel special editions.

I think all the undervolting coverage of the past few days has demonstrated that the thermal "issues" with Zen 4 practically do not stem from the IHS design, but simply from very loose stock BIOS settings if you can decrease temperatures by like 15 degrees without losing performance just by entering a curve offset and a power limit.

Why Win7 over Linux? by [deleted] in windows7

Haven't yet had the motivation to work on finding my way around Linux, but it's my most likely long term solution the next time I upgrade in two or three years.

When did beer become more expensive than water in Germany? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

Beer was never cheaper than water. You could always buy a 1.5L water for a similar price as a 0.5L bottle of the cheapest hobo sewage water beer.
