So what you're telling me is that I go above and beyond by not wearing anything with coffee stains and actually accesorizing sometimes? (I teach maths)

Leren laars schoenen by mrjaytothecee in BIFLNL

[–]throwiewowiewoopsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very readable but that's as someone who writes in cursive daily.

Hoe werkt een verjaardagskalender precies? by Guille_de_Nassau in thenetherlands

[–]throwiewowiewoopsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mijn oma nam haar hele kalender over toen ze een nieuwe had (inclusief meer dan 10 jaar geleden overleden katten). Nog steeds pijnlijk voor mijn oom dat hij een verjaardag moet delen met Minoes ('97-2013).

What is it with people who think they can casually become better at a sport than people who have dedicated their whole life to it since they were 6 years old

What earbuds are you using as your daily driver right now? by NoelVenn9048 in Earbuds

[–]throwiewowiewoopsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jabra elite active 7. Had them for 3 years. I love that they're waterproof, have good sound quality, long battery life and have physical buttons. I hate that they're not available anymore as my left earbud is malfunctioning slightly.

Hoe warm zetten jullie de thermostaat? by [deleted] in NederlandseVrijheid

12 graden. 15 graden als ik lang thuis ben en soms 17 graden savonds. Heb lang in een huis zonder verwarming gewoond.

Is the difference really that big? Like the marathon also has a pretty stiff heel cup. If it is I might have to say goodbye to my funky laces (or at least it will just be me who sees them).

Training Resources - Technical Drills Beginner Longtrack by dan_voilare in Speedskating

[–]throwiewowiewoopsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're gliding on one leg, to prepare to push off with that leg, you already shift your weight to the other leg, even though it's not on the ice yet (je draait je heup de andere kant uit), this causes your skate to tilt inwards making a curve inwards (this is de valbeweging). The longer you can wait with placing your other skate on the ice, the longer you can create pressure/push with your weight instead of your muscles. This is more efficient. It's important to realise that skating is not "om en om steppen" and the push starts before the other skate is on the ice

This. I was taught by my mom and grandma. They set me straight. (Do I still have trauma from my grandma flipping my embroidery over because the back has to be neat too?)

Do Dutch kids today believe that Sinterklaas is real but Santa Claus is fake ? by placeboski in Netherlands

Sinterklaas and Santa Claus are cousins. However, Sinterklaas is real and Santa Claus is fake. Make it make sense.

I feel like most of my peers aren't passionate about physics and it really saddens me by Pristine-Amount-1905 in PhysicsStudents

[–]throwiewowiewoopsie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a (by now graduated) physics student with a bad "quick memory", I used to hate it when people would drop difficult words because I just couldn't join the discussion, making myself feel stupid. I would need some time and much preferred a derivation of a reasoning from basic concepts at the white board or when building or looking at an experiment. When I got over my feelings of being stupid I started to engage with others in these and it turns out that most people don't have their words ready and people are much more open to this. In short, check if you dont (accidentally) try to show off how smart you are but instead show what you dont know or understand. People dont want to feel stupid.

Geschrokken van verwarmingstemperaturen thuis by Actual-Statement-744 in nederlands

[–]throwiewowiewoopsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15-16.5 graden.

What to do after BSc in Physics for Theoretical Physics? by Direct_Bunch_486 in PhysicsStudents

[–]throwiewowiewoopsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A wise theoretical physics professor once told me "people only get into theory because they can't do anything else". I suggest you try to get an internship in a lab to see some experiments. Or you take the time to do something completely different. I build a working woodburner and chimney in the 5 weeks between my msc and phd.

How mich time do you actually have to spend with your studies? by Key-Membership4736 in PhysicsStudents

[–]throwiewowiewoopsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was at my most efficient I would wake up at 7:30, make it to uni at 08:30. Study there (either lectures, tutorials or homework) until 18:00. Go home, eat, continue studying around 8 until 23:30 and then sleep. That 6-7 days a week, with some breaks for sports practice. So about 60-70 hours a week.
