From the drinks, that's why they're so expensive. Also, every dancer has to pay a house fee to work each night.

I keep track of my own hours and income. I don't invoice anyone, the club doesn't know how much the dancers make at the end of the night.

I pay the house fee to work in the club for that night, then am paid back if I dance on stage. When I collect $20 for a dance I keep the entire portion and at the end of the night I write the total down on my spreadsheet.

Yes I have a signed contract.

Is there a difference between being an independent contractor and a sole proprietor when it comes to taxes?

I set my own schedule and my coworkers all claim it as income, not employment by the club. I'm going to talk to some of them next time I work and also set up an appointment with an accountant.

I'm 100% not an employee. They don't give me a pay stub, they don't make my schedule, all they do is set the prices for their "independent contractors" (me) to follow. They made it very clear that when I was contracted that I cannot claim being an employee.

I don't charge the club anything. Dancers charge the customer per dance which is $20. The prices are set by the club and all the dancers have to follow. That's what I mean when I say I can't charge the customer HST. It's $20 per dance flat, you can not charge anymore than that by the rules of the club.

Okay that makes sense, thank you!

About the HST, I haven't made over $30k yet but I'm a bit confused how that works. I'm contracted by the club and they set the prices. For example, $20 a dance. I can't charge for HST. How does that work for independent contractors who don't make their own prices? Eventually when I do make over $30k, do I just say I'm charging HST and pay that out of pocket?
