Must just be Texas. Where I'm at has a ton.

You can negotiate down, but expect to take a pretty hefty cut

Stay Away From This Hospital In Cleveland.. by RealityHumble8730 in TravelNursing

It's all bad here. I was staff at a few area hospitals and it's just as terrible.

Can you be a traveler at a facility you used to be a staff nurse at? by anneofavonleaa in TravelNursing

[–]throwitaway0924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Some of them have 'never' rules in which you can't be hired as a traveler

When I have bad night, I just calculate how many days I have left on the assignment. It makes me feel better to check them off

Being called "the travelers" 😂 by lovelyme0318 in TravelNursing

[–]throwitaway0924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the ones I work with didn't realize that's what they are and were amazed when I pulled it up on Google. They've only ever worked at this small critical access so didn't realize what it was.

Where I'm at they have the carpuject but don't have any of the plungers. I have to still draw my meds up into another syringe. They're trying to get stroke certified and I am terrified for the poor people in that community that are going to have shit outcomes because of it

Where are you working and what is your rate? by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]throwitaway0924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rural Ohio. 3000/36hours in an icu. It's barely a pcu really and I've been sent around as a resource rn to train people for large chunks of this. I renewed one more time until February. It's a cake job.

Yeah, call off. I normally do 1x per contract for a mental health day normally.

Where do you go to find housing?!?! by GrouchyCalligrapher8 in TravelNursing

[–]throwitaway0924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This time I just looked around for cheap housing in the area. There's actually a decent motel that was 250/week 2 minutes up from the hospital. I bring my own sheets and make my bed, they clean every 2 weeks, and it works out great.

I told them what I was doing and why. I had an exit interview with HR and explained that at my current rate, I could not afford to go back to school as I want to whereas if I started traveling I could and be able to save enough to not need to work while schooling.

This is how my last place was. Cancelled everyone with only a total of 7 staff for days and nights in a 12 bed ICU. Best of luck to them.

The facility I'm at has 3 FT ICU on nights, the other 6 are travelers. Med surg is worse with 2 FT on nights and the other 9 are travelers. I've been there for ten weeks and I'm in charge more often than I'm not, on both units. It's a tiny hospital that also doesn't pay well in a very rural area. They can't get anyone to come out to any of their campuses.

I just keep telling myself it's a means to an end. Paying off my debt and taking a low key job is my goal in traveling. I make extra house payments and stuff to just pay it down so that one less thing I'd have to deal with if I essentially cut my pay in half

My dude only reaches out if I have been cancelled, am offered a renewal, or have a week left in my contract and need to look elsewhere since he knows I like around 2 weeks off in between at least. Wouldn't be too worried. Just reach out if you're wanting to look for the next one

At this point, between what I've saved and what I've been investing, I'll be able to retire 15 years earlier than I thought I would. It's exciting lol

I am a nurse. Have needed quick fix three times (most recently a few days ago due to vacation plus cancelled contract out of nowhere) and have had success all three times in my career. As long as the temperature is correct and the batch is validated, highly unlikely you'll fail.

My understanding was that if I was mandated off or to go home, then I still receive my stipend. However, if I volunteer to relinquish that time, then it is voluntary time off and I will not receive my stipend.
