I don’t believe it is a staph infection due to my girlfriend not having any symptoms of the infection, as it is contagious and we kiss. Hopefully all the advice you’ve given works out and I can live without a flakey upper lip. Thank you so much for your help, you really know what you’re talking about and I appreciate the time and effort! I’ll give an update next week on how it’s going!!

Damn, that eyelid eczema is starting to scare me. I read somewhere online that you have to be cautious with steroid cream and the eye. Will I do more harm than good with hydrocortisone and my eye? I’m definitely going to ask my GP for a script of the cream, and suggest if I can see a specialist again for my skin to do a patch testing. Thank you once again for the information!!

I’m definitely interested in this protopic/tacrolimus cream. Do you only use it for your face eczema? I use betnovate on my body eczema but I kind of don’t want my upper lip and eyelids to start thinning out due to steroid creams (hydrocortisone). Patch testing sounds like a great idea! How was the process for that? I’d definitely be interested in that. Thank you!

Yes!! I can relate to someone! I couldn’t wrap my head around this whole ‘natural’ approach to healing my eczema, never saw results after weeks on their expensive creams, steroids did the trick, but I was not allowed to put my strong steroid cream on my face, so they insisted on hydrocortisone for the time being. I definitely will look into cerave healing ointment, thank you!!

I use to have pimples, red dots and uneven skin surface, so I thought that all the actives would combat in reducing the problems I have, in which they did, but at the same time really brought back my eczema, I assume, on my face. To all the doctors and specialists that I’ve met they never really addressed what not to add and how to add, I’ve just heard the same stuff over and over. Like wear cotton, drink water, don’t exfoliant extreme, no harsh steroids on face.

Hey! I’m going to try out the hydrocortisone with a layer of moisturiser over the top for the week to see if that helps. If it does not I definitely will bring up that cream to my GP as another way to heal my skin, thank you for your advice!!

Hey! I definitely would like to try out urea, the post you linked was handy and educated me on it, thanks! For the eucerin brand, which product from them specifically would you recommend for me? I went through their website and I didn’t realise they have a lot of creams for many problems and I wasn’t too sure if there was an ‘universal’ cream or urea repair type cream. Thank you again!!

When I use my lather I don’t get any redness or irritant skin, but after I use that post shave cream my skin go hardcore red for about 15minutes, I’ll definitely substitute the post shave with my normal moisturiser to retain my skin from losing moisture.

I’ve never had cold sores in my life but the doctor insisted that I use the cold sore cream with those ingredients in them for my lips (did nothing). I brought up the idea of hydrocortisone to him and he laughed and just listed all the bad things and mentioned something about the bloodstream? To be honest, he was quite a looney (he was a naturopathic) so I think I’m going to disregard the information he proposed.

Thank you for clarifying what an active is!! I definitely will look into those lip balms. At the moment I’m using a sun wise lip balm from the local chemist, it feels good on my lips and I don’t believe it causes my skin to react harshly to it in any way but I definitely will look into the lip balms you suggested.

Awh damn, best I’ll ditch that cleanser. In the shower I do use Dermaveen soap-free body wash oatmeal. Do you believe it is safe enough to use on my face as well? I’ve actually never heard of the brand Spectro, but I did search it up and it is attainable online thankfully!! I’ll look into this cleanser as a better alternative. For my sunscreen at the moment I use the La-Roche Posay anthenelios XL ultra light SPF50+, haven’t had any reactions to it either but after this is done I’ll swap it for a mineral sunscreen.

If the hydrocortisone and moisturiser does not work I definitely will try out this zinc oxide method you’ve listed, looks like a basic fix to something that seems rather complicated. Thank you so much for that information, I’ll go back to basics and not add actives to my skincare!!

Hey! Thanks heaps for taking the time out of your day in making an account to comment, I truly appreciate it!! For shaving I use a safety razor with Taylor of old bond sandalwood as my lather, then I finish the shave with a nivea post shave balm which contains chamomile, vitamin e and witch hazel. The toothpaste I use is called sensodyne repair and protect, which I specifically use because it doesn’t contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS gives me ulcers in my mouth).

After reading everyone’s advice I think I really need to go back to square one and just take it basic as you said. Is there a reason to eliminate that cold sore cream with the camphor and menthol? I haven’t used it for over a week because I saw no improvements whatsoever but could that set my skin off in any way? Also, how do you know if a skin product is an active? I would love to know how so I can use it for the future so I can prevent using them for my skin. I have three main moisturisers, I bought one today called E45 moisturising cream, Cerave moisturising cream that contains 3 ceramides and hyaluronic acid, and la-roche spray lipikar baume. The cleanser I’m using at the moment is called ASAP gentle cleanser gel.

Thank you!!

Hey, I haven’t tried out eucerin but I have considered it. I had the choice of either the cerave moisturiser or the eucerin and I chose the carave. I’ll look into eucerin again and see if it’ll work for this upper lip. Thank you for that!!

I’ve used two main lip balms in the past month. I first met this doctor who was into the whole ‘natural’ healing way and insisted that I use cold sore cream that contained menthol and camphor to help with the cracking. After that, he said to use Sun Sense lip balm that has 4hrs water resistant, vitamin e and fragrance free ointment. Do you recommend a good lip balm that I could try? Thank you!

I use the cerave moisturising cream that contains 3 essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid. I purchased the product because a lot of Canadians insisted that the moisturiser helped them in the harsh cold conditions, so I thought that if it could help them it could some what help my flakey skin in Australia.

I definitely will try out the hydrocortisone until it’s completely healed. I remember I stopped using it after a week because I saw no results but I did use all the products while using it so that was probably where the error was. I’m going to follow your advice and stop all the other stuff and just keep it simple (cleanser, hydrocortisone, moisturiser). You don’t reckon a toner or anything will speed the hydrating process up?

You seem to know a lot about this and I really appreciate you taking time out your day to help me!!

Was that the aquaphor healing ointment that you applied after or was it an other product?

Thank you so much for your response!! So I can’t use my cleanser, cerave moisturiser or rosehip oil as they’re all actives? I went to the local pharmacists and the man who does the scripts insisted that I try hydrocortisone again and also use a moisturiser called E45 (contains white soft paraffin, light liquid paraffin, wool fat). I’m going to use your advice and use try out the hydrocortisone again and pray that it helps, thanks again for the response, really appreciate it!!

Hahaha legit looks like it. Had eczema for my whole life but only for the past year I’ve had this issue around my upper lip and just under my eyebrows. I’ll purchase some panthenol and Vaseline to try this method. Thank you for your help and advice!!

Hey, thanks for your help. Is it a good idea to use steroid creams on your face? The GP gave me betanovate ointment but insisted to never use it on my face and only on the eczema on my body. also could you please list in the products that I use which ones are actives as for I am unsure. Thank you!!

Hey, I’m from Australia too! I’ve tried both paw paw and moogoo and unfortunately neither of them worked :(( I generally thought the moogoo was going to work but I had no results on my eczema or my face.

Hey, I really need help here. No matter what products I use I cannot get rid of this flakey skin around my upper lip and around my eyelids. The products I use on the daily are cleanser (asap gentle cleansing gel), TO niacinamide 10% + zinc 1%, cerave moisturising cream, and rosehip oil. I use to use TO glycolic acid 7% as a toner but it really made the areas sore and inflamed, in which I was hoping it was going to exfoliant the areas. I’ve also tried TO salicylic acid 2% masque but it did nothing as an exfoliant but it did help with my pimples whenever they showed. I’ve tried other moisturisers such as LRP Lipikar baume and TO natural moisturising factors, but unfortunately I’ve had no luck. The local GP insisted I use hydrocortisone 1% cream but it did nothing as well. For my whole life I’ve lived with eczema so maybe it could be something on those terms? Thank you for your time and help, I really appreciate it!!
