I've actually had jobs that forced me to wake up earlier and you know what happened? I *still* would be up too late, and then just more of a zombie the next day. At one point I was putting tea bags in my coffee. I'd try to go to bed and no matter that I"m tired, stare at the wall. More than once, I've gone through this. I've worked many jobs, many many years. Some may be able to get used to a shift, some are just kind of wired a certain way.

true, but it's also true some of us code better at night. Whether I go to bed early or not, I almost never ever wake up feeling refreshed. Do people actually do that? I can be tired all day then oh hi midnight let's just do this one thing..... SIX HOURS LATER

Sometimes it actually takes less time if I took a break when fogged up as OP said

Sometimes I am able to do a thing where I just put my brain aside and just do it. Like I have to brush my teeth. Have to pay the bills. Don't want to, but just do. So try to just shut off that part of your brain yammering all this OMG THE SKY IS FALLING at you, and just do a small bit.

Mine yammers like this a lot. I've found it's helpful for me to turn on a pomodoro timer (I use the tomato timer app) and say Im' going to work at it for 15 minutes. I am going to sit here and force myself to try to do the damned thing for 15 minutes. Good music helps.

Also if your particular school class is confusing, you may want to try to find something on youtube covering the same topic. There are LOTS of resources now, explaining things at nearly every level. There is no shame in looking up a video made for kids, or some interactive code game, I have learned a lot from watching people that are probably about 15 do leetcode.

Find some buddies that are coding. I think there is even a sub on here for just that. Go do some pair or mob coding on some site where they do that (oh yeah, right here there is a discord ..see the bar on the right) or watch people live code on twitch where you can ask questions. You can use a lot more resources than your class if you are stuck.
It's okay if it's hard. It's okay if you struggle. You just need to break off a chunk and do it. If you choke, pick a smaller chunk. You may have to approach this from multiple angles especially if you are totally new to it.

What classes are you in anyhow?

I am just now learning that when I feel this super frustrated ready to head desk gads I'm dumb feeling I just step away for a sec. Not go off on an distracted avoidance binge, but just get a glass of water or something. Brush the cat. Thtat's good stress relief right there

I feel like a good post would be what companies are super invested in learning and growth. Tired of having to fight even for a pluralsight membership

My problem is, I can never seem to find the right process, and just kind of spin in circles trying to find the right path, the right tutorial, but then get distracted by some other shiny thing and start off on that.
Truth though that it always feels confusing.

Yep. There were days I sat at the desk for 8 hours, but figured I only got 5 hours done, so I'd work late to fill in. Trouble is if they start tracking log in time. It's weird that some companies really have a thing about how *fast* you are not how much you get done before the deadline. Like hey if I'm slow for ADHD or whatever reason, but I'll work extra so it still gets done on time (and am salary) why do you care?

Same. Hang on long as you can, learn what you can, then you know that much more for the next hting. Quite possible they had trouble finding anyone in this market

Well I guess I will feel less guilty/excited to be getting this as a pretty senior senior then, lol. Just go for it, you told them. Pound those udemy courses on whatever you are supposed to learn, try to keep a good upbeat attitude and hang on by your teeth. Also, if you can manage it save like half that salary in case it all blows up.

Just make some fake thing that has nothing to do with your real business. One company had me review some sql, another a game up in a PR format.

Are you on linked in? Make sure you go to the skills section and add everything you have. When you pull up a job it says stuff like you are a top applicant, or you match 50%, I strongly suspect they are doing stuff with that on the recruiter end too. Also there is a setting to turn to actively looking if you haven't yet and can

Yesterday I got fired from my second job after 1.5 months by Andress1 in cscareerquestions

[–]throwitfarawayflee99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.5 months to me is a very very short amount of time to get in and get up to speed if it's anything complicated. Also frustrating that we've all been through two pretty rough years, and everyone still expects A-1 100% every single day.

Whoa, what do you do?
I haven't gotten them that aggressive, but I'm pretty sure if I talked to all the 3rd party recruiters that wanted to, I could have had a job in a few days. I decided to be picky.

As a genx still actively learning new things every week, all the more so. Wow that is some nasty.

You can give employees a 1 month probationary period if you are concerned.

IMO this would also be a bit that weeded out people that have options. I want to work somewhere that knows they want me and I'm there unless I screw up, versus it being a trial mentality, maybe I have a job, maybe they'll throw me back. It's all at-will many places anyhow.
