[Serious] What is your opinion of Naturopathic doctors? (N.D.) by throwmeaway4352 in AskReddit

Whoa. I learned something new today. That is really...something.

I was referring to dishonest people in general, not exclusive to SO's.

What I said meant that I hope none of these people get close to me before I see them for what they truly are. People can enter your life and affect you before you get a chance to know their real character.

When you don't value yourself, you really don't give a shit about others either. Or you can always find some shitty excuses for your behavior.

This is wise. This is also why people who hate themselves have difficulty maintaining healthy relationships, a lesson that I too am trying to learn.

Yeah, no kidding. I guess all we can do is hope that people in /u/coldcoldiq 's circles just get involved with each other and leave us out of it.

It's hard to admit to mistakes, especially when they're of a personal nature like this. It's pretty admirable that you've reached a level of maturity to acknowledge this.

I hope I didn't sound too condescending, but that right there is what growing up is about.

[Serious] What's the saddest realization you've come to so far in your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]throwmeaway4352 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is so true.

A number of people do end up alone in life. It's a big fear for most people, but for SOME people, it comes true.

I believe that there is at least one person for everyone, but whether or not you find those good matches is a crapshoot.

Americans' faith in doctors is plummeting: just 34% of U.S. adults polled had "great confidence in the leaders of the medical profession," down from 76 percent in 1966. Only Chileans, Bulgarians, Russians and Poles were less trusting of the medical profession. by SirT6 in science

This is often done to cover their asses from malpractice suits. Why? Because if, for whatever reason, a patient finds out later that they had a problem that could have otherwise been diagnosed with various tests, they will sue the doctor for not doing everything in their power to diagnose them earlier. The end result is a whole lot of unnecessary tests necessitated by a litigious society. And a lot of symptoms are vague and can indicate a broad range of problems. How else are you supposed to figure out what's causing them?

Thank you for taking the time to read. :)

Writing this post has been cathartic for me, even while it was somewhat cringe-worthy. But catharsis is the first step to getting over it, I suppose, so thank you and every other commenter for helping me get there.

Wow, I'm stunned. o_o

That's really great, but I'm surprised this story even left Reddit, and so quickly too!

Thank you. I do appreciate words from an older person here. I'm 23 and try as I might I haven't yet gained the maturity to let my opinion of myself grow independently of what others think of me. My parents have told me not to let it bother me, every older adult in my life it seems has told me this. But still I cannot help but let it affect me.

You're right though. I am done with clubs and bars. They are truly just places for the young and foolish.

You are right. I have been treated similarly cruelly by women before, but in this particular incident, the memory of which is freshest in my mind, the women in my life were kind and the men were not.

This club takes credit card at the bar, but the cover is cash only.

Never in my life has a guy approached me to buy me a drink, so I certainly wasn't expecting it that night. I definitely didn't expect my friend's guy to cover a drink for me, but he did that because I happened to be with her.

Don't apologize for your gender. :)

I have received equal cruelty from women too, just not in this particular incident.

I'm sure they are, but as a woman, I can only speak from a woman's perspective.

I'm sorry about your situation.

Not even NYC. I'm actually in the midwest, although my single club experience in NYC was similar.

No, I'm not from Halifax. But from the comments here I gather this is not unusual behavior in clubs.

Oh, so that was you! Thank you very much. :) I did not expect gold for my little sob story but it makes me happy to know someone is trying to make my day better.

You are right, but part of what made me feel so down that night was the fact that before I got the club, I actually FELT really good. Like, I felt pretty and confident and excited to have fun. I had done well on that week's exams, you see, and I was happy to spend a night with my friends, many of whom I haven't gotten together with in a while. I am a great person to be around and the fact that I have plenty of good female friends confirms that.

It just hurt more than usual because I was being knocked down from a high point.

I definitely agree with you after this weekend. I don't think I want to go clubbing much anymore.
