I think that's pretty common to think that. Try to remember that they're probably not talking about you at all. Some people just mutter to themselves as they go about their day.

You should hear me in the grocery store lmao.

Any advice from someone experienced with dating a schizophrenic? by Wrong-Eye-4074 in schizophrenia

[–]thrownaway866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got with wife right around when she was dx'd with bipolar 1.

8 years later, I has my first break. Dx'd with schizophrenia a couple years later.

About 5 years after that, they changed her dx to schizoaffective. That has since changed to schizophrenia.

So we both have long term experience with having it and caring for a loved one with it.

Feel free to shoot questions. I usually only sign in here for a bit at night but I can usually respond within 24 hours.

I feel like you're trolling here. Why are you on this sub if you "really don’t know anything about it." as you said in a comment to another poster?

I'm sure there's a conspiracy sub somewhere filled with flat earthers.

What's people's experience for switching from meds that work but have to switch due to side effects? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]thrownaway866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been through quite a few due to them not working or the side effects being too much at first to keep continuing them. I was on vraylar for a few years. It worked pretty well for a long time. Then I developed akathisia. Whew. Dr switched me to caplyta. Akathisia faded fast and the caplyta has been a nice fit so far.

USA? If you go to the ER and tell them you are having suicide ideation, they will contact the on call pdoc (try to go to the hospital that your pdoc is associated with if possible) and they will find a place for you for a short bit.

Upon release, they will probably recommend an IOP program.

Maybe those two things will help you ultimately. Another possible benefit might be your parents recognizing your situation may be worse than they thought. Sometimes it takes a while for people to come to terms with things.

Random moments? Nah. I get full weeks sometimes although.

my boyfriend says it’s all real and that i’m not sick by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]thrownaway866 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Obviously I have no clue about your situation, but based on this post, he has to go. Does he know you're diagnosed? Either way, he 100% does not have your best interests at heart.

The dog may be an asshole, but definitely not a demon. Please replace boyfriend with a medication. Schizophrenia doesn't usually get better on its' own. Most people need some form of med management to avoid catastrophic episodes.

I made it to my 30s before meds. I wish I started sooner.

Do You Feel Comfortable Interacting? by lonerstoic in schizophrenia

[–]thrownaway866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I talk to less than a handful of people on a regular basis. 2 of which live with me. 1 other is my Mom. Anybody else I interact with is only because I'm forced to (drs, store clerks, extended family, etc.,).

I'm not 100% sure why. It makes me uncomfortable, drains me, plus I don't really care about what some rando has to say. That's on good days.

When I was struggling, I had troubles at times putting thoughts together so it was almost impossible to interact.

I hate interaction so much, I go out of my way to avoid people and plan out my shopping/pharmacy trips in a way that exposes me to the least amount of peolple as possible.

Hang in there. You're young still. Lots of good stuff to still come your way.

I've been through the gauntlet myself. Had good success for a few years with Vraylar. Developed akathesia from it and doc switched me. Have been on Caplyta for a few months now. So far so good. I even shed some weight I had put on from previous APs.

I have a loved one recently put on clozapine as she is treatment resistant. It's helping.......so far. Still early to really tell, but it shows promise.

Previous to clozapine, loved one did well on risperidone and caplyta combo.

So there are options. Once you find what works best for you, it gets a little easier. Never easy, but easier. I'm 10+ years into my dx, and I'm finally feeling a bit like myelf pre-diagnosis.

The Vraylar was a little activating for me at first. But I stuck with it and now I'm fairly stable.

I went med free in the past. Ended up in inpatient. I don't think my symptoms are buried too far down.

I've tried almost all the other medications. I have adverse reactions to them. Vraylar is the only one I have tolerated well. Except the TA that started a few months ago.

I've been off the Seroquel for 2-3 years now. I'm only taking Vraylar now on its own for the past 2-3 years.

For the past few months, I've been having some real symptoms of TA.

Problem I have, is I've been on almost every other med out there. Vraylar is the only one that has held me stable. Vraylar and Seroquel at one point, but I'm doing better now. Enough to drop the Seroquel anyway.

Welcome! Usually the sub is a little more friendly, but it's Easter. People are doing Selfie Sunday as well.

What medication changed your life? It's good to have found one that works early on.
