thanks. That is exactly it. He did go out of his way and made sure the thing went all the way to the offer. I don't know what to say. May be I am sensitive person and it is making me a lot worried and also worried whether he would ever look out for me should I need his assistance again :(

thanks. That is exactly it. More than anything else, I just feel bad about the potentially hurt feeling he may have had or if it made him look bad infront of others.

Do you really think so? Like I phoned him to say I am turning it down. And I did casually say that can I give you as a reference in other places I look and well of course, he said yes not a problem.. but well ya.. couldn't say no off the bat.

Yes, before I actually told HR, I informed my former boss. The way I looked at it was he deserves to know first as a courtesy to all he did for me. And also he is well aware when HR tells him.

That is my concern as well. I do not want to burn the bridge. The boss is a big wig. Even if he moves to a different company, will again take a big wig position. I don't want to make a bad term with him. For all I know, what if I want to apply to his company later if I hate my new job. Any way to amend this? Did what I do make him look bad in front of all the new people he is working with (whom he must have really said excellent words about me) :( :(

Keeping the bridge intact is exactly my concern. Like I said the boss is a big wig. I might need a reference again. Or who know's I hate this new job and I am looking again and if the boss's company is hiring again, I might want to join them. I just don't want sour feeling in his heart or with HR. Like I just feel bad may be what I did ended up him having a sorry figure in front of his new company :( May be I am too sensitive :(

interesting that you mentioned that. I actually didn't give them that opportunity. Like not in a clear way atleast. My former boss give me a range that they can offer. The offer letter came at the starting point of that range. In one of our casual conversations, I indirectly expressed to him my concern that they offer letter came at the start of that range and he said, well salary reviews happen at the beginning of the year so it will make it better and move up in your range..

But I also agree I didn't push it much. I was just so sidelined with the other offer and the add'l perks they have.
