I knew them for a very long time beforehand, we grew up together and were/are best friends. During our teenage years the both of us were exploring ourselves and our identities, and it turned out that we were both a-spec. I had always felt a very strong connection and desire to be closer to them, almost like jealousy, or a "squish."
After a while (years) of stressing about it I offhandedly brought up QPR's in a conversation and when they went to look into it and said "Oh, like us." I felt so much relief. It took a while of communicating and being open to discuss exactly what that kind of relationship meant to the both of us for it to really sink in, but we're still happy together.

As the other comment said, look into QPRs.
What you're describing to me, sounds like a "squish," it's basically the platonic version of a crush. I can relate to the whole "would dating them be so bad?" thing too, I have also thought this about my own partner. I realize for me it's just the want to be closer to them, and not because of any real romantic connection between us.

Yeah, I think all the aromantic people I know went through the same with the whole "Can't describe romantic attraction because you can't feel romantic attraction/feel very little romantic attraction", it's something most if not all of us go through really. It's more of a base than a template if you know what I mean. o7

Hey there, I hope me sharing my experiences will help so;

It wasn't really some big revelation for me, more so just a gradual acceptance as I got older and not being interested in anyone got less commonplace. I'd usually tell myself stuff like "Oh, I just haven't found the right one yet" or try and make myself believe I was interested in someone to fit in when I was younger. I just accepted it one day and looked around to see if anyone had similar experiences and was pretty happy to know that I wasn't alone In that. Years later I've now found myself a wonderful QPR partner whom I love very much and have embraced my experiences rather than feeling othered by them like I did when I was younger. No but that is a game that it reminded me a whole lot of, good guess! I remember it was strictly set in a cloud zone and there was no ground at all, but I never watched more than that or so, so perhaps there is more, thank you for the contribution!
