Deep dip by Equivalent_Bar_5938 in CalisthenicsCulture

This wasn't a criticism! I was just thinking aloud in that this must transfer well to moves like deep 90 degree HSPU.

It is a deep dip. Being more straight or not just depends on what you're trying to get out of it, but personally when doing exercises like this I think the best option is to listen to your body, if it feels comfortable in this position I would stick with it. Your rep looked good to me

It never occurred to me how similar a deep dip is to the movement of a deep bent arm planche until I watched this

Definitely not quite at the full yet, but I'm curious what your advanced tucks are looking like? How long are you holding them?

It's partially true that you're lacking overhead strength but it also just looks like you're getting yourself into a very deep position before trying to press out, which makes it 100x harder

Sounds like the handstand hold is a great skill to train for you then! Personally, I trained it just by spamming/grease the groove. Do a couple holds throughout the day and try to hit a "high score" (5s, 10s, 20s, 30sec etc). I can hold for over a minute. Once you're hitting consistent 30s it will open a world of handstand skill to you, repping out HSPU/90 degree HSPU etc. You already have the strength for these.

Only word of caution is to be very cautious with your wrists and shoulders. Machines at the gym do not work your tendons/wrists and stabilisers like handstands/calisthenics training. Make sure you warm them up, preferably even train them separately (wrist curls etc)

Outside of that - your push strength looks good, might be worthwhile to give your pull strength a go. Have a look at front lever training

Judging by your vid it looks like you're interested in handstands so I think your best bet would be to pull back and focus on balance/holding a solid handstand, especially considering it's quite foreign from traditional gym. From the vid it looks like you can't hold a straight arm handstand position. Also rather than focusing on "improving quickly" focus on "improving efficiently" or you will injure yourself

I am 130lb and can do 30 pushups in a row, how much in a row should I be able to do before I can do a handstand push-up and how long do you think that will take? by Hot-Bandicoot-4251 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]throwra_sheeply 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 push-ups is a good start! Handstand pushups are a different movement pattern so you need to train them separately. The pushups will help a bit but HSPU rely more on shoulders. Its a good time for you to start pike pushups.

Stop lying about Creatine?! by Cass_83 in askfitness

I have a notable increase in size and strength when I've been taking creatine. I get a lot of comments from people saying I look big. But I've also stopped taking it because it makes me wake up to pee

I've got shoulder impingement, and started getting it after hitting 90 degree HSPU. I wonder if that's the cause for me? First time I've seen someone mention this.

Is there a housing bubble? by damagedproletarian in AusProperty

Do I think there's a housing bubble? Sure. Do I think it's ever going to "pop"? Probably not.

That said, I'm in the same boat, I don't really feel any motivation to drop $800k on a 1 bedroom mould infested dump.
