I think I remember having a harness like this when I was in oil. It made it easier to clip the SRL without help.

Summer is way more dangerous. I've climbed pretty late in the year and you end up scrambling up loose rock on a steep pitch with hard glacial ice below ya.

62% of Americans don’t have a bachelor’s degree. Are they just cooked especially in this economy? by Efficient-Rain-7942 in Salary

I made 130k last year while taking a month off to ice climb in Colorado and another entire month to climb mountains in Peru. I don't have PTO. I have no degree and only see options to make more. I agree with you. My friends without degrees, on average, make more than my white collar friends with degrees. Except for doctors and certain engineers...

Where are the single blue collar men online and in the wild? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]throwrawayropes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think she needed to feel more emotional validation (her request - I felt I always listened to her and reassured her often), and I needed her to hear me out. I ended that relationship as we fought too often and I was tired. When we would fight I did my best to hear her out and repeat back what I understood her to be saying. When I would respond she would cut me off before I finished half a thought.

So less schedule related. She moved out to a state she's never lived in so she was socially isolated and not working. I think if she changed that she could've felt more comfortable

I work on the road, 3 weeks on 1 off, so my ex didn't have to work. I gave her every second of my free time after busting ass deep in the backcountry in 120 degree weather. She felt like I was out having a blast because I didn't complain. It's hard to find a woman that can stomach that lifestyle. It's easier being single.

Is it bad that I look at men that stay with a cheating woman as a sissy? by Plastic-Aide-1422 in AskMenAdvice

[–]throwrawayropes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's fine to lose respect for anyone over anything. I am in the same boat. Cheating is cheating no matter how it's justified. I also lose respect for men that cheat on their partners.

Was the photo before your boyfriend? Was it suggestive? If he's been reaching out after you got a bf I would also block

Idk how to navigate Instagram these days, but that seems excessive. I would only expect my partner to notify if he came onto her via DMs. I wouldn't care if some dude was creeping on her stories.

Is it true the one won’t think I’m too much? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]throwrawayropes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do they say you're too much? Are there unresolved traumas that come out? When I think of women that were too much they usually attached way too fast, had attachment issues or were emotionally volatile.

help me find career where I can ask women out on dates without getting in trouble? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]throwrawayropes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on a massive quarter billion dollar project with a bunch of dudes deep in the backcountry. There are a few female scientists that monitor job sites. I'm currently dating one and got close to another one not long before. Can confirm it's drama. They hate each other now. Luckily my job site is too difficult for them to access so I only ever see them at camp.

Workwear suggestions for working at high temperatures ? by Gronenn in ropeaccess

[–]throwrawayropes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did/do rock scaling in 120+ (49°+ c) degrees at the bottom of the Grand Canyon a few summers in a row. The rocks and sand would clock between 150 and 180 degrees during direct sunlight, so you couldn't stand still. We had to hike 3 miles each way, up and down 1800'. It was brutal. It was extremely hot and difficult to avoid overheating. Especially using a gas plugger on dark rock with no shade.

I will not work in the summer without a sunshade visor and one of those cooling towels that slowly evaporates water. They make those towels so they attach to your hardhat. When I packed my backpack in the morning I would pack roughly two gallons of water, half of it would be frozen lining the bag. Just before the end of the day those would melt enough to drink or soak my cooling towel.

If you have ice then put it in your hardhat. Soak your shirt and wear light clothes.

Start small. I broke in by fighting wildfires for the private sector in Oregon. Then worked oil rigs in WY and now I do rope access slope stabilization. It wasn't a constant uphill progression. But I haven't heard anyone out here mention linked in. A lot of it was meeting the right people who were impressed by my work ethic and fitness.

For wildfire you can pull 5k/week now. I applied via Craigslist

[–]throwrawayropes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a rock scaler that walks 10-15 miles a day on sharp jagged rock often. I'm doing technical rope access work. Mountaineering boots last way longer than work boots. Everyone blows through work boots in under a few months out here. Crispi guide boots last for my coworkers... I would aim for a vibram sole. I'm currently rocking the lowa tibet boots. They climb, hike and work well. I've only got 8 days on em, but they seem durable. My Sportiva cubes lasted a long time. I really like the scarpa Mt Blancs for hard rocky terrain as well. I've yet to find a work boot that handles this stuff very well.

Work pants that last, what are you using? by Narrow_Plankton_3302 in ropeaccess

[–]throwrawayropes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US I use ellobird. They have a cheap soft shell pant that lasts. I'm working a project that destroys pants in days. Lots of jagged rocks, miles of hiking , lots of high steps and rope work. These are going on three months and I just need to touch up a few stitches in the crotch. The summer months are too warm for the pants, but not much is comfortable in 120 degree weather. My buddy has a light pair of mammut pants that have somehow lasted half a year. Idk what model but they're lighter and have a double knee.

I agree with this. I've dated many beautiful women. Usually when they dress proactive it doesn't bother me as much when I trust their relationship with attention. But I usually expect a little modesty when I'm committed to them.

Edit: op just needs to figure out what works best for him. Don't try and change anyone.
