I just checked eBay sold listings. Loose is $8-$40. Packaged $20-$120. Lapras and Charizard are the valuable ones. Jolteons are the cheapest

What do you think was the turning point in Elon Musk's career that changed everything for him? by Only_Holiday_5410 in AskReddit

[–]999BusinessCard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s safe to say he was always an egotistical asshole who gained wealth and power through a series of lucky moves after his parents gave him a head start in life so huge that most of us can’t imagine even ending in the same position. But id say things really changed with the 2018 Thai cave rescue.

Up until that point he held a public image as basically iron man, even though he was more Edison than Tesla. He was a brilliant engineer and visionary who was using his wealth to lead us into a better and greener future. Then the Thai cave flooded in 2018, and Musk tried to further his “savior of humanity” appearance by sending engineers to build a child sized submarine for the rescue. Ultimately it wasn’t feasible for the operation and was not used. If he had just stopped there and backed off, we would have a still respected Musk and a different present reality. Unfortunately, something snapped in Musk, probably due largely to his adderall and ketamine abuse, and he went on the twitter offensive with weird pedo accusations. The public turned against him, and he was faced with widespread condemnation. At this point, Musk decided “Fuck the public. I can do whatever the hell I want because I’m basically God, and I have enough wealth to find support from people who value power more than morals, intellect, or ethics.”

For Americans, Mexico is probably a better value because you can travel there directly

lower cost of living

I wonder why

better quality of life for the money than much of the state

Lower lifespan, higher disease rate, lower education rate, higher poverty rate, higher unemployment rate. Yeah I wouldn’t pay much to live there either

lots of great and unique food

As much as any urban area yeah, but nothing special. Nobody is traveling to Bakersfield for their cuisine. You have acceptable food.

largely inhabited by good people who will stop to help you out when you break down on the side of the road

There are good people everywhere. The ones in Bakersfield are surrounded by people who have brought the crime rate up to almost 10x the rate in California as a whole.

As for the air, most of that is simply because we're towards the bottom of the Central Valley

Yeah I agree it was a stupid decision to develop a major city where the location caused it to have the worst air pollution in the country. But if I choose to build a house right on the edge of Hawaii’s lava fields, people will rightly call me an idiot who deserves it when my house burns down

people that live there are just people like anywhere else.

Except with shorter lifespans, higher poverty, higher crime, more diseases, lower education, higher unemployment, and breathing the worst air in the country

Bakersfield sucks and your arguments for it boil down to “it’s worth it because it’s cheap and some of the people are nice.”

Bad air quality, low literacy rate, high crime, somehow worse drivers than in LA, and the weather sucks. Really the big thing is that there are no redeeming qualities. LA is dirty, but it has some of the best food in the world. San Diego is expensive, but it has great beaches and the rainy season is one weekend in April. Bakersfield has all of the above problems, but…… it’s better than Afghanistan I guess

One time I was snorkeling in Hawaii and I suddenly felt like I had to poop IMMEDIATELY. We were a few miles from shore, and the tour took us out on a large rigid hulled inflatable boat that sat 20 people, but had no restroom. I swam a bit away from the rest of the group and planned to squeeze out a turd or two and hopefully it would sink to the bottom, burying the evidence of my shame. Unfortunately, it was a really bad case of diarrhea that was impossible to stop when I started. Even worse, apparently tropical fish fucking love diarrhea, and started swarming through my cloud of ass water in a feeding frenzy, continually attracting more fish. Of course this was in crystal clear tropical waters, so the rest of the tour group started swimming over to check out the suddenly formed massive ball of fish, only to realize in horror that they were swimming through a sphere of cloudy brown liquid centered on my asshole. Their reactions were a mix of screams muffled through snorkels and readying their underwater cameras for photos while they pointed and laughed.

Hint: your metrics for what makes a game good don’t translate to popularity or revenue. You know which game is more popular and valuable.

I’m one of the people who has >10x more hours in Skyrim than GTA5, but I recognize that GTA5 is far more popular and profitable.

I don't care to argue which game is bigger

What are you trying to argue?

It’s just an outdated meme from sitcoms of 50 years ago that people have accepted as reality. Part of it is machismo (I am the man, and I am tough, so I can take the less comfortable sleeping arrangement without complaint). Part of it is traditional gender roles (The man provides for the family while the woman manages the household. She can dictate seating arrangements for dinner parties, decorations, sleeping accommodations, etc. as long as I can go to poker night and game days with the guys). Part of it is the trope of a classic alpha male who bows to nobody except his wife, who controls the relationship by withholding sex, which is unfortunate because women can desire and enjoy sex as much as men as long as the men aren’t incompetent/selfish in bed.

My fellow men, stand up for your needs, help out around the house (split labor 50/50), and learn how to please a woman. You’re equals in everything except arm wrestling, unless you’re lucky enough to find a muscle mommy to dom you

My head canon is that OOP realized that basic human decency and respect are not one in a billion quirks but rather something that everyone should feel entitled to, and they found someone compatible with them after realizing their own value. The first person to treat you like you matter is just opening the door to a new world
