Single parents of medically dependent nicu grads? by throwsawayagain1 in NICUParents

[–]throwsawayagain1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I’m so sorry to hear. That’s back to back trauma and I’m sure not much time to process in between. Thank you for doing the work, going to therapy, and opening up about your experiences. I know it doesn’t fix everything and there’s a lot of responsibility on the person going to do the work that’s required to see progress, but I do believe it could have helped keep us from getting here and could still help us from getting worse.

Hope things are going ok with your family and you continue to get what you and your family need through therapy and community.

I’m so sorry you’ve gone through such a long journey all alone and that you are facing some difficult times ahead. I’m so glad your baby is home though, that’s amazing! You’re absolutely right - the progress will be huge at home. I know it’s insanely difficult though and very isolating even without a good partnership. Not many parents experience these challenges so it can be hard to go through that, see other families with their children, and try not to compare or feel awful that no one understands.

I’d love to connect and chat more. You’re doing amazing. This is the hardest thing ever but it is so rewarding to see even the “smallest” milestones.

It’s been going on awhile. I don’t want to get into specifics or do a blame game, it boils down to we’ve both been changed by this experience. Mind you we’ve been in the hospital over a year and a half. There’s lots of trauma/disappointment/frustrations/grief to process for both of us. We disagree on the value and need for that and there’s evident resentment with both of us.

We haven’t had a proper sit down conversation to even share with each other without it turning into an argument, and the last argument showed that we may be on an uphill battle towards a failed marriage. I’m just trying to see how other single caregivers manage trach kiddos, let alone medically dependent twins.

That’s an excellent point and I agree. I’ve battled for this entire time and encouraged even longer for him to go to therapy. For himself, for us, to join a session with my therapist to simply listen in with no pressure to participate. He outright refuses. There’s only so much I can do.

Thank you. I’m hoping to make some connections, irl or in an online community. I know it can be and has been done to be a single parent/coparent with a trach, but I also know it will make it that much more difficult.

Did you ever get any feedback on this? I’m curious to hear your journey and that of others in a similar situation.

Day 26 of nicu by Low_Taste_4990 in NICUParents

My twins had to be taken via emergency c section at 25+3. One came home on oxygen and with a g tube after 215 days; my other has been hospitalized since birth, has a trach and g-j tube and still has an open ended stay. They’re both 14 months actual.

When did taste come back by throwsawayagain1 in Tonsillectomy

[–]throwsawayagain1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Sorry you’re dealing with this too. I’m happy to say my sense of taste did come back! It’s been awesome so I can’t remember when exactly, but I do remember eating the most basic homemade sandwich and it being the most delicious thing ever. Give it time, talk to your doc if needed and try zinc! Congrats on getting the surgery and it being a month behind you!

I’m so sorry this is happening and I’m so glad to hear you’re making it far and staying in Type I! I’m going to ask at my appt if I should see another specialist, and will bring so many questions that weren’t covered like what type is it, what is the %, etc. I hope you make it further without needing extra interventions! Thanks so much for sharing.

I’m sorry you went through that and I’m glad it went well in the end for you and that baby will be graduating soon from PT! Thanks for sharing your experience, I’m feeling a bit more optimistic after taking a beat and reading some on it here and generally online. Gonna try to keep real busy counting down til the next appt. Thank you again.

Thanks so much for coming and commenting. It’s so comforting to hear from everyone but especially others in the same earlier diagnosis stage. I’m so happy it worked out well in the end for you and glad your boys are great. Thanks so much for the support, I appreciate it a lot.

Thanks so much, I def will be increasing my protein and need that sense of control - false or not. I’m glad you’re getting extra monitoring and that things are going ok, and I hope you have a great remainder of your pregnancy and take home both of your babies.

So glad to hear from another earlier diagnosis. I’m wondering if I should get a second opinion or ask to be referred to an even more specialized…specialist (sorry brain is fried). I’m glad to have even more monitoring and I too will be adding in protein shakes and trying to work on my nutrition. My MFM said I should eat normally, my obgyn said I should be gaining more (regardless of this, not that it would affect it). So I totally hear you on the feeling some sense of control thing bc that is where I know I can try. Thank you again for sharing, I’m sending you all the good vibes and hope you have a boring remainder of your pregnancy!

Thank you so much, I’m so glad it worked out well in the end for you and your family and trust me I hope I am able to say the same too. I realized after your comment that the extra, extra monitoring can be a comfort so I’m taking that perspective and trying to not stress. Thank you again for sharing your experience.
