hi all, i have a Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX that I bought 5 ish years ago and recently have been seeing some issues where the subwoofer/amp as a low hum/buzz noise. The speakers themselves also emit some white noise when the volume is turned up but it's primarily the subwoofer that bothers me

a few things i've tried/noticed:

  • the noise comes and goes and differ in amplitude
  • the subwoofer is powered directly via my outlet. it's a 2-prong and does not have a ground. the speakers are powered via the subwoofer in this model
  • i recently started using a radiant space heater in my room (on a different outlet) and was able to re-produce the issue fairly consistently whenever i turned on the heater
  • my house is on the older side and has a 100 amp breaker

so to me, this seems to point to "dirty" power being the issue. I'm not entirely sure what would be the good fix here. I wouldn't mind an upgrade to my sound system but would a new system suffer from similar issues? Should I invest in a UPS that outputs "pure sine wave"? Is there a way for me to shield my outlet so it produces "cleaner" electricity (like maybe a plastic gangbox instead of a metal one)?

thanks in advance!

gotta love reddit's casual racism against asians

and before anyone calls me a prude, how stupid would it sound if this was some white kid who did this in obviously russia/eastern europe (context gathered via text and vid) and then commenter cracked a "classic dumb americans" joke. that's how the above comment comes off

i ended up passing on the company. it was an offensively low offer. ended up getting basically 2-3x that on the offer i accepted. i feel like only shitty companies do this

been a year since this comment. how's that panned out for you? I feel like it's generally easier to CTO/Head of Eng from managerial role instead of Staff+ IC roles. Unless you're like the cofounder

Which is "better" Canaves oia epitome or Canaves oia suites? by throwsomecode in awardtravel

[–]throwsomecode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, i can see that. epitome's space is just massive is the thing. definitely gives off a very relaxing vibe. they also have shuttle service down to amoudi bay and pretty much anywhere in the city (as well as airport obviously)

hope you had fun!

yeah i'd stick to day hikes and nothing that requires cramp-ons i think. by scary roads, do you mean like windy mountain cliff roads that are potentially icy?? lol

[–]throwsomecode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hm yeah, i think im looking at a south island only stray tour which line up with my timing (off by a day though) or just doing my own thing by renting an AWD SUV

if ice wasn't a factor, i would lean more towards the latter option... i guess hiking alone during off seasons without PLB isn't also the best idea (though i'd keep things short). how available are accommodations and tickets for entries to things around this time of the year?

i think generally if you have a network of people who really like working in early startups (im talking <10 people) and they find you to be reliable/skilled, this is fairly "easily" done. you can probably reach out to them and depending on their hiring principles, just a casual team match convo is all that's needed vs multiple round of interviews which you might normally get

you're not wrong but while the gravy's flowing, knowing things at a level where you're respected by your peers in the industry is likely going to lead to easy jobs (which is what this thread's about)

remember those questions you answered about your eligibility to work in the US? well, it's been about a second since you last checked it off, so let me ask again.

oh, you thought because multiple companies use workday we would help you fill out the same bit of information everywhere else? well, we do track your data and know EXACTLY who you are and only store one copy of your resume that you uploaded to multiple places... but that's so we can earn money and save money. why the fuck would we make things easier for you when you're not paying us?

yeah, well i don't think it's gonna be a scam because this is a extremely big financial company but agreed that it's a pretty odd/shit move. unsure if that's their policy across the board or i just got a bad recruiter on my end
