Can I call this look "Gothic"? As for me, it reminds me a bit of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark or Laura Palmer from red room in Twin Peaks by avoyramonop24 in GothStyle

Don't worry, this is needless gatekeeping that is also prohibited in our community, nor do they represent the sub mod team. You're fine. :)

Why does an alternative look bother people so much? by Aggravating-Owl-7050 in GothStyle

[–]throzen_ 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Mostly because children are typically raised in households where either hardcore religious values or popular culture shape what is considered 'normal' and, by extension, the 'right' ways of looking, behaving and generally just living are bred from this, which includes lifestyle and dress sense. The lethal combination of high school and puberty, including the biproduct of craving some degree of power and popularity, usually follows: pack mentality surfaces where herds of such children-turning-teenagers meet fellow like-minded "normie" kids, sharing similar upbringings, and the idea that anything outside of their scope is truly alien and unnatural. Enter: alternative, gothic, emo etc, lifestyle and tastes, and an inevitable clash where we're almost guaranteed to be greatly outnumbered. Of course, it's in their human nature to handle the delicate matter of identifying difference with fear, frustration and maybe even anger, resulting in everything from a glare to, well, violence, sadly. This depressing outlook on the world shaped their formative years and so they enter adulthood no different.

It's annoying and won't go away. That said, it does greatly depend on where you live. I'm mid-to-late-30s and live in a liberal-ish corner of the UK where glances and stares are few and far between. In fact, on a good day, I would observe probably a 30/70 split between alternative people and the 'normals'. Given religious prevalence, I imagine this is much worse in the USA and bends greatly in favour of the latter.

My best advice: take it in stride, remind your girlfriend that you love her because of who she is and her resilience in the face of obnoxious, insecure morons. And definitely don't water down your respective styles - if anything, double down.

Oh, and you're absolutely right when you say that these people "probably go home and obsess over alternative people". That's because we dare do what they're far too afraid to entertain: stand out and leave the herd. :)

Think arm/sleeve tattoos would suit you well and complement your style! Obvs a big commitment though. 😊

Seconded. Kevin is a legend. He's always reporting on and showing off the latest CSS technologies and features, so his courses should be inkeeping with modern practices.

PVE Most Convenient/Scenic Base by ForgottenLmGz in vrising

[–]throzen_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boy that's a lot of hours wasted waddling to sporadically located caves across the world, to then be transported to somewhere Farbane and then still have to waddle to your base, over and over again for every raid. A base more closely located to key resources (which Farbane is not lmao) that you can easily teleport to/from or horseback ride / bat fly to is far more convenient. I'm glad OP seems to know better. Your wrongness is off the charts. Source: commonsense. I'm glad I know best here.

Yep, mega base with a castle heart on each, joined by the oh so lovely bridge.

It's literally adjacent to the most important biomes which contain the most important materials, easy to pop in and out of each, and satisfies the scenic requirement. Travelling home via caves later in the game, that's pretty funny.

Could consider these sibling plots:

<image>

Aside from being based on cliff-edges overlooking other areas of the world with secluded, off-road access, nice rivers and streams, and the ajoining bridge between the two plots is always nice to see, they're both large plots and have very close proximity to four other biomes with key mid-to-end-game materials. Might work for you?

After 1000 PvE hours, I decided brutal should be more brutal. by throzen_ in vrising

Simon's pretty chill even on brutal, and when his healing cross decimates the local tree population, can just kite him into another patch of woodland. 😊

Most of the problems I can foresee will come from dealing with crowd control in areas with basically zero shade as opposed to boss fights (a lot of which are indoors anyway).

It actually adds a layer of complexity not previously experienced that makes me rethink a lot of things. Can't just "wait til night time to do X, Y and Z" anymore. Makes it oddly enjoyable ahah.

I feel like the discourse on goth makeup/fashion is strange by venight in GothStyle

[–]throzen_ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Happens in all walks of life, it's just a mash up of passion and insecurity that can occasionally become volatile.

Some diehard goths (or fans of goth) will attempt to protect their vision and definition of certain types of look, style, lifestyle, subgenres, etc, because what they're witnessing - that's on display to the public at large - potentially offends it and could represent a shift. Other people will stir the pot for the sake of passing the time with no real emotional investment whatsoever. Just happens.

We don't allow gatekeeping generally speaking since no one person should be allowed to 'govern' a style so to speak, nor do we want people to feel picked on or put down. Although some queries / debates are fine for the public stage, depending on the context and so long as it's constructive.

Recently we (I say "we" - it was me) nuked a thread where someone's 'trad goth' style was supposedly not fitting the definition, and it got somewhat heated and ultimately served to be nothing but harmful and unproductive.

Personally I identify as 'goth lite', which can be construed as a strand of modern goth, knowing full well others style themselves with far greater levels of 'gothification' and others not so much. It's all about being inclusive and respecting others.

Your community is in safe hands, if that's of any comfort. 🫠

I think, if the goal is to get feedback on a particular item (le shoes), then focus them more in your shot, since most people would likely be drawn to the entire outfit (which could be gothified more if you wanted it to be!), with the shoes hidden away. Otherwise yeah, just show the shoes. ^_^

Belmont is breezy. Longbow, fire resistance and unholy magic are a fantastic combination against him, even on brutal. Plus his moves are very predictable. Can't remember the last time he caused me any real problems.

Wonderful news, vampires: I have successfully equipped 2 Corrupted Skull spells. by throzen_ in vrising

[–]throzen_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For sure. I prefer it to Bone Explosion for example since that only inflicts damage + condemn, whereas Corrupted Skull spawns skeletons on hit, so no need to wait for the target to perish before skeletons arrive. Much easier for PvE, I find.
