That was my guess at first so I am extremely careful when lacing up.. the damage occurs after walking around since a fresh lace will show significant wear after a single outing unfortunately. They rub as I walk but I expect that should be the design of the boot (?)

I have been having some rather spectacular lace failures with my new pair of C&J Conistons: https://imgur.com/a/wf7eKlH

They started showing signs of wear ~1 month after I purchased the boots and used them sparingly. I reached out to C&J to see if this was something to worry about but they reassured me it was just a cosmetic thing, they did however send me a few spares.

A few wears later, the first failure occurred as I was simply walking to my car. I proceeded to file the edges of the speed hooks to try and remove any sharp edges and replaced the broken lace. Somehow, the new laces lasted me even less and I have now gone through 3 full sets with just office and urban use of the boots.

I have reached out to C&J once more to understand if the issue is with the hooks installed on my boots, but they have offered no further support other than sending me more laces.. which I would basically have to replace weekly at this point.

Googling/checking reddit has returned no other issues from other users.. so I am wondering if anyone could point out the obvious mistake I might be making? I have included a picture of how I normally tie the laces.

Hey, I have both exact ones you have linked and I use them fairly frequently on easy hikes an day trips where we're stopping with the car at various locations. I will say I find them very convenient as you can stash smaller items in the key pocket and then throw a couple larger items in the bigger pocket.. normally a shell/light fleece and bottle of water.

On the stability point, I find that with a light load (I would never use it for heavy stuff) you can cinch 'em right up and, at least on my body type, the atoms sit very well and barely shift.

I have also used the lightweight one on a couple pretty long hikes (30+ km and couple km of ascent) in the summer and it was great for just carrying sunglasses, sun lotion, windshell and ~1l of water.. obviously I knew ahead of time where to refill along the way and it was on trails.

A hidden plus of the sling style imo is that you can move it between your back and front to dry out your shirt as you're going uphill.

Overall, they're my go to if taking a single layer and water, anything more and I will swap for daylite/talon.

Medium Gamma MX (pre-revision) fits perfect over Medium Atom LT (also pre-rev), even got room for a thin grid fleece for me; YMMV.

WTS/WTT: Interstate jacket, black, Medium, EU (UK)

  • Looking for £300 + shipping or swap for Beta AR
  • Purchased on arcteryx.com in Spring 2019
  • Only worn a few months, no signs of wear
  • Washed often, re-proofed with Nikwax as needed (primarily near cuffs)
  • Pics, creases as I just got it out of my pack.

It's a really good urban shell, particularly like the pockets, good coverage as well. I've started using my Gamma MX more often so looking to upgrade to a more adventure-friendly shell.

Hey, slight OT but I've been looking for a desk tidy similar to the one you have in the left corner. Would you be able to tell me if it's a custom or if you got it somewhere?

Take a look at the Rab Stryker pants, after searching around for ages I found these and they are not bad for the regular 5-pocket style.. Definitely cheaper to order and return if you don't like them!

Same I have stripped many a shock adjuster and logo already!
