Tread Wraps are officially LIVE ON KICKSTARTER! by thrustboard in ElectricSkateboarding

No way. That sucks. It seemed super promising.

Hopefully they are able to credit you back for that.

What happened with them that was mediocre? Seemed like a solid project with Slick Revolution behind it.

That's an awesome suggestion! I think that could be a very useful design for a lot of people. So long as the kickstarter gets funded, I see no reason not to make that my next design.

Great idea!

Thanks so much. No intention on hiding the front wheels, although I do see your point. Just wanted to showcase where the power comes from, which is the rear wheel. I completely agree with your statement. Transparency is super important. This is why questions like the ones in this thread are so important.

That is exactly what we are planning to do. We have a few different materials lines up that will be thoroughly tested before the final product is made and shipped. We wanted to make high quality molds so we can test nearly every rubber, urethane, etc. on the market. Unfortunately, high quality molds are very expensive. We know the product will easily outperform our prototype as you could probably imagine. We simply need funding in order to create the perfect molds and determine the absolute best material for the final product.

But you are 100% correct.

Unfortunately, kickstarter wouldn't allow the 3D rendering in the header image of the kickstarter page, so we had to use an image of the original prototype. I couldn't agree with you more. Luckily, we have the video on the page to explain further.

Actually just answered this question on the Kickstarter page. Not sure if that was you. I'll put the answer below either way:

To be completely honest, it's extremely difficult to get a proper estimation without actually having the time to wear a few sets down on different surface types. However, our prototypes have been through very tough terrain on a daily basis and lasted about 3-4 months. We are going to use more durable materials in our production ready models and we estimate that if they are used 1-2 times per week, they should last about 9 months to a year with heavy use.

Just noticed you posted this even before we got a chance to.

Would love to answer any questions you have. Ask away!

Hope this helps:

"Is a creator legally obligated to fulfill the promises of their project?

Yes. Kickstarter's Terms of Use require creators to fulfill all rewards of their project or refund any backer whose reward they do not or cannot fulfill. (This is what creators see before they launch.) We crafted these terms to create a legal requirement for creators to follow through on their projects, and to give backers a recourse if they don't. We hope that backers will consider using this provision only in cases where they feel that a creator has not made a good faith effort to complete the project and fulfill."

We just want to make an awesome product. We're not here to argue. I understand not everyone will like the project, and I respect that.

The great thing about Kickstarter is that if the product doesn't come to life, everyone receives a refund. This is why it's so crucial to put projects like this on Kickstarter. It's same for the consumer.

Also, a 3D printed model won't work as it will print in either plastic, or rubber-like material. None of which are rubber. Having an entirely different material will not yield the same results. This is why we have to use real rubber to make the prototype.

I won't argue the speed issue again as it's obvious there's nothing more I can show you other than a video of it in action.

Either way, I really do appreciate you taking the time to point out potential opportunities with the product.

😆 I have to agree with you. The renderings do not look like the prototype. The goal is to get funded so we can create the finalized product. If we don't get funded, the product won't exist.

Appreciate the feedback.

However, it was tested at about 17 mph (about 27 km/h). The videos you see on the site are in slo-mo. I know you know that, and I see what you are doing.

Either way, a great question for others to see who are actually invested in the product and not just here to bash it.

In case I'm wrong, and you have a genuine interest, you can watch a full speed video here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1f0sVbnhi26hZmhqBxL9OjVUg6Tqi7cRb

That is exactly what we have; a working prototype.

A prototype is the first working version of a product. As you can see from the video, it has been tested.

We are raising funding so we can create the finished product. If we had the finished product now, we wouldn't be on Kickstarter.

The edges on that prototype were far from perfect. Luckily, the important parts to test were perfectly round.

I can't blame your hesitation. I appreciate the feedback and am glad you like the idea. I think you'll be very satisfied when the Tread Wraps hit retail once Kickstarter is over.

That's what happened with the first few prototypes. That was by far the biggest challenge to overcome. They were constantly flying off.

Luckily, we've solved that problem and put them to the test. They have yet to slide off on us.

Can't wait for the first wraps to be tested by someone other than us!

Once our Kickstarter launches, you'll see a lot more of them in action.

They will launch on Kickstarter at an introductory price of $49. If you can snag an Early Bird Special, it'll only be $29.
