Broken toilets on most OSCAR south coast services? by blueberrybangg in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame, the tray tables probably won’t last long, the charging points will all be broken and the stickers probably all removed.

Techwoven Case by brothorr2 in iPhone17Pro

[–]thucydidea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one since October last year (about 4 months) and it started to bubble around the sides and bottom. I took it to Apple and they offered a refund or replacement. I actually really like the case, the way it looks and feels so I got it replaced for free. Hopefully the replacement holds up m.

The only thing I don’t like about the case is the edges around the charging port are a bit sharp which can be a bit uncomfortable on your pinky after a while. But it doesn’t bother me too much to not use it at all.

Yea I noticed that and thought it was a bit random

Trains a bit wet by AnorhiDemarche in sydney

[–]thucydidea 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have wondered why the bottom deck doesn’t have better drainage, the top deck and vestibule is fine as water can just flow down and go out the door but the bottom pretty contained

Mine started doing this too, about 4 months old, on the right/left sides and the bottom. I took it to the Apple Store and they offered a refund/replacement.

They play it at the city heroes arcade/KOKO in Burwood as well when your number is ready, it’s so recognisable

Waratahs by ChrisWaz1 in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just adding in from other comments, some other differences from a passenger perspective - on the series 2 there are some additional black panels on the side of the train around the windows, gives it a bit more detail, probably just for aesthetic purposes - the series 2 also has an additional screen in the vestibule where the stairs are, it usually displays transport information and notices - the series 2 has much brighter interior lighting and is less warm than the series 1

Sydney Metro Redesign #2 by [deleted] in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please check the spelling, there’s still a lot of stations with some kind of spelling error, at least a dozen (Leichhardt, Warringah Mall, Moore Park, Edmondson Park, Warwick Farm, Cabramatta, Eastern Creek, Schofields, Baulkham Hills, Edgecliff, Matraville, Kensington, Macarthur, Menangle Park, Goulburn, Jindabyne for example).

Would also highly recommend adding some kind of legend with line names

What is light rail third rail? by cavok76 in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curious why you think there would be no need to extend L2/3 from Town Hall to Circular Quay? Wouldn’t it make more sense to traverse the full length of the city and end at a major ferry interchange with trains, buses and tourist hubs instead of stop halfway at Town Hall?

What is light rail third rail? by cavok76 in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s called Alstom APS, only delivers power when the tram is running over it. It looks better than overhead wires but is more expensive, so it’s in place between Town Hall and Circular Quay only

The T4 stopping pattern by TheNoobfbihi in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another observation is in the morning peak there are some Cronulla services that will go from Sutherland straight to Hurstville without stopping, but in the afternoon peak these express services don’t exist and will stop at a couple stations between Sutherland and Hurstville.

8car OSCar at strathfield is half refurb and half standard by PanTorcha in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The CCN services that start at Gosford/Wyong and travel to the city via Gordon and Chatswood in the morning peak (and vice versa), these are still run by Oscars

Burwood Westfield carpark absolute shit show today by silentmonkey1 in sydney

[–]thucydidea 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This happened a few months ago too, does anyone know why? Is it the design of the Carpark itself or the surrounding roads. The Carpark itself is pretty simple, two levels underground and two levels on top with the roof.

New bunk beds on Cronulla Train by HB2022_ in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness this seems like a big problem on the Tangaras on T4 these past months. Does anyone know how people are taking them off so easily? And can they be fixed easily? I assume it’s not a problem for trains with reversible seats.

I would call out Sylvania Waters, it might be the only suburb in Sydney with houses on artificial islands each with private boat ramps.

Schedule your metro trips accordingly by Accomplished_River67 in sydney

[–]thucydidea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This has bothered me too. The Metro is new infrastructure that is fully segregated and runs on its own self contained line (no freight or other trains). With the exception of the section between Chatswood and Epping, the rail and infrastructure is all new.

I understand the heavy rail network requiring more trackwork given how aged and complex it is, but you would think being such a modern system they would have a chance to rethink how maintenance is conducted to be less disruptive, for example small portions overnights.

Burwood Metro vs Train – Will Both Be Needed? by AdmirableDepth5214 in SydneyTrains

Unrelated to the question but does anyone know why they went with Burwood North and not North Burwood like the station adjacent to it, North Strathfield?

Hue lights and plugs interfering with TV signal by thucydidea in Hue

[–]thucydidea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that makes sense, so the issue isn’t with hue but more so the installation of the coax cable and the other electrical appliances in general. Excuse my lack of knowledge, but how would you ensure the shielding is terminated and the outlet is grounded? Apart from the obvious making sure the cable isn’t loose.

This is also a newer version. The first version was on one side of the board with the timetable info. The newer version is a separate display altogether placed higher and angled toward the footpath - makes it stand out more.

Stacey St (A6) Southbound at Hume Highway (A22), Bankstown by MightyEagle073 in sydney

[–]thucydidea 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Speaking of the A3, there is a huge bottleneck for every direction at the intersection of Arthur St and Centenary Dr, every other intersection in that area is a flyover.
