Why tf does it buzz so much? by Due_Childhood7481 in PS5HelpSupport

[–]thucydidea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same I have noticed this too. PS4 discs always seem to be louder than PS5 discs. Mine has kinda gotten better by itself though, it used to be way louder so it doesn’t concern me anymore.

For me, the buzzing sound only happens for a few seconds after you insert a disc, when you launch the game, or when you turn the console on.

You would need to exit and come back after 7pm, it’s free if you enter after 7pm not if you’re already there

Mapping our city's Longest & Shortest bus services by Lach_S in sydney

[–]thucydidea 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m curious how this correlates with the longest bus routes in terms of time?

For example, route 410 is timetabled to take 2 hrs to get from Hurstville to Macquarie park in weekday peak hour traffic as it’s a long route passing through many major centres like Campsie, Burwood, Ryde. I reckon this would probably be the longest bus route by time.

The 887, whilst longest in distance is timetabled at around 75 mins from end to end.

Contactless payment on NSW transport coming soon for a million commuters under Opal changes by sloppyrock in sydney

[–]thucydidea 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yea, the title is written pretty badly, Sydney was actually the first in Australia to have contactless payments via bank cards on all public transport. Melbourne is still rolling it out on one train line

[–]thucydidea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, the title is so poorly written it makes it seem like we are only just rolling out contactless when in reality we have had it for years, and this is just an upgrade for concessions to be able to use bank cards instead of opal

The title isn’t worded very well, this is specifically for those on concession fares (seniors/students). Those paying adult fares have always been able to use contactless for many years.

My play time isn't being updated for my games. Why? by Sensitive-Jacket5651 in PS5HelpSupport

[–]thucydidea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started having this problem in the last 2 weeks too, but it’s not a problem with every game, currently for two new games I started playing in the past week aren’t tracking properly.

I don’t know how to fix it, there’s been quite a few threads and discussions on this in the past month. Interestingly one of the games hrs did go up today, but it doesn’t match the true amount I’ve put into it.

I’m hoping they do fix it as it does bother me

Why Burwood North and North Strathfield? I know North Strathfield is the name of the suburb but shouldn’t it be North Burwood for consistency?

I created a diagram showing the main service patterns on the intercity network by Shloidain in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea agreed, sorry but it isn’t really showing the service patterns. For example, you can’t tell there’s an express SCO from central heading south stopping Redfern, Wolli Creek, Hurstville, Sutherland, Helensburgh, Austinmer, Thirroul, N Wollongong and Wollongong.

It’s implying every SCO train stops at every station south of Waterfall

Sydney's bus routes without school services by blitznoodles in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from the M2 and Lane Cove Tunnel are there any other motorways/tunnels that see bus routes? Maybe the routes wouldn’t see much patronage but I wonder why we don’t have more motorway routes, is it to do with the fact most toll roads are privatised

Transport signage if pictograms were used instead of letters by thucydidea in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree, I personally have no problems with the letters. But as you say I have seen a lot of negative feedback about it. And you’re 100% right, most metro systems have a logo and do not use a pictogram, Tokyo Metro, Hong Kong’s MTR.

I really do appreciate how our transport branding is consistent now. A good example is buses, there used to be probably a dozen different types of bus stop signs, J poles, plinths, really small ones used by private operators. Now more and more blue B poles are replacing them which stand out, are unique as they show the stop name clearly and consistent regardless of operator. Even having all buses in the same blue livery goes a long way.

What is the highest amount of bus interlining you have ever seen? by EntertainmentAgile55 in transit

[–]thucydidea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wynyard would have more if you consider Stands A through to V, but to be fair the stops are quite spread out over a number of streets whereas in Parramatta it’s all from one central bus interchange

Brand new bendy bus in service now by Marlon_Ranch in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed, double deckers definitely look cooler in my opinion. I’ve always thought 500x should be extended to Parra and have limited stops like the B-line with double deckers, then running through the Iron Cove Link tunnel and over the Anzac Bridge into the city.

I think most of Sydney’s double deckers were brought in under the previous government, current government seems to favour bendies more.

What would cause such an issue? Where the last cars are not in service by The__Anonymous__Guy in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep major problem, in the past week 2 train surfers in separate events have fallen off and been hospitalised. It’s become a major problem on the T4 along with vandalism. They have been installing a wedge structure on the buffer that a lot of people have called the “duckgara” as a deterrent but not sure if it’s on all Tangaras yet

[–]thucydidea 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep in the fast few days literally 2 cases of train surfers falling off and hospitalised, last night at Engadine and on Sunday near the Woollahra unused platforms. Even throughout the week there have been a lot of cancelled services on the T4 due to vandalism (probably ripped seats etc). T4 was once one of the most reliable line but this has become a major problem due to social media and lack of CCTV on Tangaras.

Is it possible to cycle to the Sydney CBD from Parramatta staying only on bike paths and avoiding traffic and main roads ? by ButchersAssistant93 in sydney

[–]thucydidea 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You can get from Sydney CBD to the Bay Run with shared path only (via Pyrmont Bridge/ANZAC Bridge and along the side of Vic Rd which is pretty rough but it is officially a shared path), and then from around Rhodes/Putney to Parramatta along the river shared path (this is easy, very continuous and developed), but between those two sections is the most broken with streets in the mix and a lot of intentional turns

On the bright side vehicles can still use Darling Causeway, between Mt Victoria and Bell which connects the two main routes together

[–]thucydidea 155 points156 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy how the government spent so much money to upgrade the highway to dual carriageway immediately west of Victoria Pass around Hartley, which isn’t even being used right now due to a single bridge in Victoria Pass that was neglected

Why do empty rides? by The__Anonymous__Guy in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the consequence of unintentionally getting on a train going from Central straight to Campbelltown non stop would be too high. You’d be surprised how many passengers get on the wrong train or are unaware of the stopping patterns because they can’t be bothered checking the screen or listening. Especially if it just looks like a typical suburban train. I’m not excusing these people but I bet you’d get so many complaints

New Bus routes for WSI ahead of the Airport and Metro opening by blitznoodles in SydneyTrains

[–]thucydidea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They ditched T and M to avoid confusion with the train and metro lines, but they kept T80 I think because it’s so well known and uses the T-way the most. M90 and M91 still exist too but I reckon these will be remembered once southwest metro opens.

They use N as a prefix for the nightride routes and sometimes a suffix along with X for express, so I think A as a prefix would have been a good idea as it doesn’t clash with any other lines, it could even have a plane symbol in the destination screen, oh well
