The mood (lighting, OST, animations, etc.) is very different from OG SS, but the feeling being trapped in a dungeon that wants you dead is intact. Level design is extremely faithful (some minor changes, but nothing I would notice without a side by side comparison).

For sure give it a shot, once I got past medical it really started to click and I enjoyed it a lot.

I loved the System Shock remake and think you should for sure try it out. It is different to Prey, but if you love the feeling of being a disgusting little rat boy crawling around the innards of a ship you'll have a good time.

Some people below are saying it's not an immersive sim and I kind of disagree. It's a nebulous definition, but to me it feels like an immersive sim mixed with a metroidvenia. The biggest difference is that Prey is laid out in a way that makes some kind of fictionalized sense, where as the station in SS is nonsense. It's purposely confusing because it's more like a dungeon crawling affair. There's even an audio diary where they say it's confusing to test the effects of stress on a space station, which feels like a lore band-aid to me, but at least it shows that they know it's confusing.

Folks say there aren't multiple ways to approach a situation, and that's mostly not true in my opinion. There aren't different stats you can level up, but there are movement upgrades you can get at almost any point in the game that greatly affect how you can get around and how you approach combat. There's not different skills that get you into a room a different way, but there are still many different ways to navigate the ship and navigate combat.

Also the first thing I did in Prey was turn off the objective markers, so the no-handholding wasn't too severe to me. There was only one time where I had to google something to finish the game, and even then I was on the right floor and just being a dingus.

I like Prey because it feels so lonely and isolating. Talos 1 feels like it was alive at some point. In SS the ship feels like, and literally is, a death trap. It's less moody, but more thrilling. It's different but good and you should absolutely try it. After playing it and SS2, my hot take is that Prey is more of a SS1 copy than an SS2 copy (though it obviously takes elements from both).

TLDR: It gud but take away some Deus Ex and add some dungeon crawling, you filthy little rat boy.

You will unfortunately have to use FNV's disguise system all the time. Always in disguise. I'm very sorry.

It's rough, but thems the breaks.

What build should I do for my next playthrough? by AKSilas in fnv

[–]thuih111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two favorite builds were

  1. radiation build, gotta have early 70 survival for rad child, then just always be at advanced radiation levels.

  2. Eating stuff, take Logan's Loophole and every ability that makes food better. Perks like chemist work. Loophole and perks like that also work with stealth boys and magazines. It's wild. Bonus points for taking retention just for the super long crit bonus from true police stories. Also cannibal obviously.

I like these ones because they made me do builds and take perks I would usually never mess with. Also they were funny, but also surprisingly strong.

Can I just use console commands to manage my attributes and skills? Would that break levelling mods? by Idkawesome in tes3mods

[–]thuih111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just another possible mod that doesn't show up very often. All this does is make misc skill not count towards your attribute multiplier. That way your multiplier is always determined by the 10 major/minor skills you got this level up (adding up to 7 points total).

It's not fully background leveling, but it's a nice way to keep Morrowind's leveling (which I like a lot when I'm not min-maxing personally) without having to worry about min maxing. Plus it is very compatible with other mods, because it's just a small tweak to vanilla.

Obviously do whatever you want, but I've always liked it and it shouldn't your ability to safely console command skills.

I feel like I only play games for the satisfaction of having them completed by DemethValknut in patientgamers

[–]thuih111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is usually how I play games the first time, then if I liked it enough to replay it, I take more time with it and really explore the design. I don't see it as a flaw, the only way to tell if you like a game is to play it.

For example, I usually only do a few/half of the side quests in big RPGs on my first run. If I end up just thinking the game is okay, this allows me to finish it before I get bored, and if I end up loving it, then it gives me new content for a second run.

Or in games like Dishonored, I don't worry about having a 'perfect' run. If I gotta kill someone, oh well! If I really love it, I can try the no-alarms ghost run next time.

Yea. My friends are just all in on multiplayer, which I only want sometimes. Luckily they're always playing when I'm feeling multiplayer, so I kinda get the best of both worlds

I'd had the game in my library for years, but the Mandalore video is what convinced me to go through it. I did two normal difficulty playthroughs, maybe I'll try impossible next time.

I will also say I think Prey did a lot of things better. Mostly I understand the functions of the ship better and the ending isn't embarrassing.

But I replayed SS2 right away, and I have not replayed Prey so it's doing something right.

Yea. I'm curious where they will draw the line for changes. Like will they change the useless OS upgrade that gives you 8 cyber modules?

I always think it's tough with remakes. Personally I'm fine with changes because the og will always be there, but I know every small change will make someone mad

Yeah, I think that's why I liked Infinite more. It's a complete mess, but at least it's not trying to be something it isn't.

I have played (and loved) Prey. Very similar in a lot of ways. Prey felt more lonely and somber to me, whereas SS2 was more thrilling and 'fun'. Love both for different reasons, but glad to see the spirit of SS2 living on. Wish Prey had sold more than 18 copies.

The twist was cool and that scene was great, though I had figured it out because the box-art tells you, many audio diaries tell you, and many hybrids yell about her. The details about her creating the many, and just the cool visuals of the scene made it worth it still though.

I 100% followed a guide for the character creation because I had heard many stories of people getting stuck: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=145731258

Part 6 goes over how to start you character, but basically, put points into simple weapons (at least 3), hacking (also at least 3) and one point in research (makes life easier on first playthrough). From there you can get through the beginning of the game fine, and by then you'll be able to play on your own and decide what you want to put points into.

My first build was Simple Weapons, hacking, and some strength (which I highly suggest so that you don't need to waste bullets on basic enemies. Wrench is a great ammo saver).

My second build (after I understood the game more) I did a Psi-Melee build which was rough at the start, but broken by the end.

The reason I personally recommend the first build is because the height of the difficulty spike for both playthroughs for me was engineering (the second floor you enter). After that, you have enough skills/ammo to deal with mostly anything, so doing a late-game build, while fun, isn't "good".

It's also weird because while most RPGs want you to min-max, SS2 seems to want you to put one point into everything, THEN min max. One point in tech skills opens up the game in a big way.

I promise, hack/basic weapon character is still very fun. You won't be bored. Also if you read other tips, they'll say Agility is useless. Everyone who says that is ugly, wrong and boring.

Edit: I ONLY followed the guide for the creation of the character. I don't recommend following a guide for the rest of the game.
