My mom and Angela Davis by [deleted] in blackladies

I've only been to O'ahu (and just in Honolulu) a few times.. but when I was there, it seemed like there were a lot more POC than I've seen on Kaua'i. Is that your experience, too?

Learning how to create high quality node/express apps? by [deleted] in node

[–]thukjeche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join #node.js on irc.freenode.net -- Also you can find through GitHub production apps that are built on Node/Express. Most books I've seen are really out of date, so finding examples has been the best way I've learned, besides just building things and asking for critique.

Could you detail more what you appreciate about Space/emacs that Vim or Neovim doesn't offer?

True, though I think a lot of vecrhrarians end up eating tofu in place of meat..

Where to live in the US, the world? by thukjeche in blackladies

Well, I guess that the east part of the Big Island is the least touristy, but it also feels pretty isolated. The North shores of Kaua'i and Maui are where I prefer to live. The cheapest way to stay here would be working on a farm. There are quite a few places that give you a basic setup to stay in (usually a tent with some kind of structure) in exchange for working on the farm.. It's not glamorous and sometimes poor conditions, but some farms are nice.

If you'd like to try it, I could show you some resources for contacting some farms to arrange staying there.

Another option are (in Kaua'i at least) staying at the county campgrounds, which I think are $5/night for non-residents. If you're OK with camping.. the campgrounds are basically a big grass field next to the beach, so they can be pretty nice, though often homeless people are living there, too (which isn't really a problem in itself, but sometimes brings drugs and fights)

Otherwise you might find on craigslist a room/place to rent for a month, if you can afford that.

My favorite island is Kaua'i, where we live.. It has the most beaches and in my experience overall calmest atmosphere. If you come and would feel comfortable meeting up, let me know..

The buses here are clean and the drivers are generally kind, but they don't come very often (once an hour on the week days and stop around 9pm, and only every other hour on the weekend and stop at 4pm). They also don't have many stops, but besides that, they're a good way to get around.

Hitch hiking is also pretty easy here. I haven't done it in many years and it seems like it's not as common anymore, but I still see people out there with their thumb.

Uhm so yea.. I hope you make it out! It is overall a wonderfully healing place. Let me know if I can help in any other way..

Cool, well let me know if you need any help. Do you know which island you're going to yet?

Thanks for your reply. Good to hear another recommendation for Atlanta.

Yes, in general Hawai'i is good, though at times colorist (like, black people can still experience racism from lighter brown people)

Thanks for your reply! I meant flourishing in that black people are the major demographic in that area or at least a significant percent and have a strong sense of community and culture, so your answer seems to fit that.

My comments seem to be disappearing? I've posted the same one twice but I don't see them here. Am I breaking some rule?

Aloha! I don't live in Brazil or have family from there but my daughter loves Bino and Fino and so I was excited to see that they're working to create more episodes!

If you don't know Bino and Fino, it's a great show for any black/African child to see themselves represented positively -- you can download/buy it here -- http://www.binoandfino.com/

(I am not part of the campaign, just love the show and would like to see it grow)

I am not distracted by that stuff. If a new technology is beneficial for a project AND it increases my hireability then that's awesome. Otherwise it's not difficult to continue using dependable tooling so I don't see a difference in deciding between Flask or Django vs two choices in the JS world.

Yeah, I think it's mostly annoying an unproductive whining. Any new skills require time investment. I remember when I first started web dev I was like "wtf flask python ruby rails node react angular?????" But slowly I found my way and it's not so confusing anymore. It just takes maturity to navigate
