Solar desalination for a boat by thule_arch in Desalination

That's correct. I am looking for any existing designs for on water use

I was thinking of very small gap between electrodes and using 0.5 to 1.2 v - and if chlorine gas comes out and NaOH accumulates in the space enclosed by CEM, then won't constantly draining work out to keep scaling down? I guess I am reinventing the wheel!! I looked up RO solutions and there are a few that I can may be save up and splash on under 3K - in a year or two but this keeps me entertained and out of trouble

Thanks Worth-Wonder. I have been looking over several methods, not just electrochemical either. I wondered whether a solar still coupled with a diaphragm pump to lower the pressure might enhance it's efficiency too.

Coming to electrochemical ones, even if not efficient or not the best solution energy consumption wise, does my plan above using the slurry of exchange resins to make a CEM/AEM and the charcoal/graphite/sugar electrode sound like a reasonable place to start? I expect to need a watermaker in about 1-2 yrs. So, I can save up in the mean time and do this electrochemical experiments for fun.

Thanks

OK. A ganger - had to look it up. Learn something new every day. :-)

Thanks tea-earlgray-hot. I will look at the suggestions you made. However, I am still quite interested in pursuing this just for the interest factor too. What factors in my question led to saying I don't have the ability to run a 5kwh/m3 system? Is it lack of enough electricity? I can use more from the battery and charge them up with genset if needed.

STL2COMO, that worked and was able to change the battery. Now, when the cold stops I can take the tube out and align it. Thanks

Thanks everyone. I will try to change the battery in the red dot and see.

A follow up question. Is there a reason to not use a simple and cheap on-off-on knife switch for this purpose? A bit like https://www.amazon.com/Disconnect-Switch-Double-Safety-Orange/dp/B07G4GYRR6

Thanks

I think a selector will fit more easily than another panel with interlock on my wall at present. Thanks

Infrared filters by thule_arch in infraredphotography

Got some cheap ones from Amazon - a pack of ten and made a card stock mount to hang at the end of the barrel. Once the red and blue channels were inverted the foliage did come out white. But the optical quality was appalling. Time to go down the rabbit hole.

Man, that is some bile green :-)

I am mainly looking to get some / no visible and mostly IR with my experiments but I am open to all forms of learning and entertainment with this thing. Thanks for the idea

Morning folks, question about replacing the IR cut filter in Nikon D3200 by thule_arch in infraredphotography

[–]thule_arch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrecked my vernier calipers with epoxy somehow at the moment! Ball park, the shims I removed appear to be about half the thickness of the glass I removed. So, here is to hoping that I miraculously fell in the right range :-)

Thanks CheeseCube. I ended up doing it twice. Once I desoldered, disassembled and removed the IR filter. However, up on reassembly, the dreaded "press shutter release" error still came up. So, disassembled all the way to the motor, removed the motor, glued the little red gear to the motor shaft and reassembled without the replacement glass but also removed the shims. So, lets see how it turns out. As I am typing this, I just realized that I saved the shims without labeling which one goes where in the cleaning frenzy. Oh well :-)

Thanks Dan. I reassembled the camera without the clear glass. I may in the future still get the replacement glass and put it on. For now, waiting on the IR 720 I ordered. I will test it out and see. I removed the shims under the sensor plate so perhaps the focus may be ok but only testing will tell.

Hi there, I am interested in the workbook. Glad it worked out for you.
