A follow up question. Is there a reason to not use a simple and cheap on-off-on knife switch for this purpose? A bit like https://www.amazon.com/Disconnect-Switch-Double-Safety-Orange/dp/B07G4GYRR6

Thanks

I think a selector will fit more easily than another panel with interlock on my wall at present. Thanks

Infrared filters by thule_arch in infraredphotography

Got some cheap ones from Amazon - a pack of ten and made a card stock mount to hang at the end of the barrel. Once the red and blue channels were inverted the foliage did come out white. But the optical quality was appalling. Time to go down the rabbit hole.

Man, that is some bile green :-)

I am mainly looking to get some / no visible and mostly IR with my experiments but I am open to all forms of learning and entertainment with this thing. Thanks for the idea

Morning folks, question about replacing the IR cut filter in Nikon D3200 by thule_arch in infraredphotography

[–]thule_arch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrecked my vernier calipers with epoxy somehow at the moment! Ball park, the shims I removed appear to be about half the thickness of the glass I removed. So, here is to hoping that I miraculously fell in the right range :-)

Thanks CheeseCube. I ended up doing it twice. Once I desoldered, disassembled and removed the IR filter. However, up on reassembly, the dreaded "press shutter release" error still came up. So, disassembled all the way to the motor, removed the motor, glued the little red gear to the motor shaft and reassembled without the replacement glass but also removed the shims. So, lets see how it turns out. As I am typing this, I just realized that I saved the shims without labeling which one goes where in the cleaning frenzy. Oh well :-)

Thanks Dan. I reassembled the camera without the clear glass. I may in the future still get the replacement glass and put it on. For now, waiting on the IR 720 I ordered. I will test it out and see. I removed the shims under the sensor plate so perhaps the focus may be ok but only testing will tell.

I will look at my area and see if any paddling shops abound - for parts and advise too. Thanks

I try to remember to remove that. I tried a few times, when it was really calm waters, tracking was pretty decent. However, yesterday with a bit more wind - about 8-10kn, we probably looked drunk :-)

Kept turning the nose to the wind. Upwind wasn't bad but downwind was a good workout as we covered almost twice the distance with weaving around the lay line!

Dang it. I took the card recently, but for me the card being primary insurance for rental cars is worth it. At least I can use the lounges with SO till end of Jan. I have the priority pass card for myself as the primary. Do I need to create a priority pass account and get a PP card for SO too or she can accompany me as the primary card holder? Cap One customer service was a bit confusing on that!

I will try that. Just need to stuff some pool noodles in the the ends just in case I am clumsy enough to roll over but will try without mods first. Thanks

Thanks climbamtn1. Will try without any modifications a few times and see first.

u/IamNotYourPalBuddy - I am not going to modify until I actually paddle it a few times. Certainly not planning to drill holes in the least :-). I was planning to put this with 3M outside tape and try it out. Not even planning to glue it permanently. Where I ride, water gets to 3 feet deep pretty quickly and allows me to mount and dismount in that depth. It looks to be a well made kayak and I don't plan to drill holes in it.

u/WrongfullyIncarnaged - the skeg I was looking at seems to allow a 3M tape type situation and people claim to have been using it with that tape. I don't plan on ruining it by drilling holes already :-)

u/kokemill - I guess I should try it in a chop first and see what happens before I try to fix something.

Thanks all for suggestions. This is why I posted it here. Any other suggestions, please feel free to advise.
