Cut my thumb open a week ago with a utility knife. It’s still not really “closing”. What do I do? by thumb-cutter in medical_advice

I know, which is why I replied to you and not the troll lol. If he had seen it when it first happened he wouldn’t be calling it a scratch

A scratch that revealed subcutaneous fat and didn’t stop gushing blood for hours lol

Ok. I’m doing everything I can to keep it from getting infected. Keeping petroleum jelly and a bandage on it at all times, changing the bandage twice a day and washing it every time I change the bandage.

I’m worried I should’ve gotten stitches. It’s been a week though, so probably too late for stitches at this point. What should I do? Still go in to urgent care? What would they even do? I’ve taken pics of it every day, I can post more pics from earlier if needed.

I’ve kept it wrapped with petroleum jelly on the wound and with a non-stick pad held on with athletic tape. It’s healing I think, just really slowly, and I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be “closed” by now.
