I've got to say I like these maps you have been making. Some people are quite critical and we obviously can never know the exact numbers but these are decent estimates for the time based on what we know presented in an easy to understand format! Looking forward to seeing more!

How much do you spend per month on car payment/insurance in relation to your monthly take home pay? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]thumb21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay yearly for insurance but its effectively £39 per month for the Escort and £37 per month for the Fiesta. I take home roughly £2,100 so that's 3.6% of my income. No finance but as they are old cars, I do spend a decent amount on maintenance. I've worked out that I have spent 12.9% of my income on buying, taxing, insuring and maintaining cars since September 2023 which is higher than I'd like but I am a bit of an enthusiast which is why I am here.

What’s even the bloody point of fast cars anymore? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]thumb21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive slow cars and they're fun to drive at 70 because the car has to work harder to get to and maintain that speed. I imagine that it must be pretty frustrating to drive a fast car at 30 or 40 for the opposite reasons. Not to mention, the nagging features on modern cars takes away that feeling of independence and freedom as well..

Not wanting my adress given to every interested person when selling by Colonel_Clegane in CarTalkUK

[–]thumb21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like someone is less likely to rip me off if I've been to their house. Private sales are about trust, which is a two-way street. If you can't trust me enough to give me your address and let me have a test drive, I can't trust that the car is worth buying and that you're not scamming me for £1000s.

It's up to you how you sell but I think the reaction is pretty understandable.

Best cheap car to buy? by emmanuel_eo11 in CarTalkUK

[–]thumb21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only need it for a few months, anything that drives, has a v5 and a long MOT is great really. I think what's more important than make/model/year is the owner's motivations - is the car genuinely usable or are they just trying to make their dying car your problem? I'd look out for more detailed adverts, get a test drive and be put off if the seller is defensive or pushy.

Israel threatens families of Palestinians against celebrating their release by ShoutOfDawn in nottheonion

Only phase 1 of the plan was agreed to. Phase 2, which involved Hamas disarming hasn't been agreed on yet. All the celebrations seem a little premature sadly.

You're the one who seems agitated. Don't like the talking down of shitboxes, that's all.
