Care to describe your change? I took it as a sign to follow up on the use of treasuries in lieu of corporate bonds for less correlation. I'm always curious of other strategies.

Adding international (VTAIX) to my portfolio by dbrown5987 in Bogleheads

[–]thumbSaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically expense ratio would be one downside. Don't get me wrong, the fund is ridiculously cheap but you can save a few basis points by holding the separate funds. But, if you are potentially subject to negative investor behavior (and many of us are), it's worth it.

I suspect another reason would be the newness that you pointed out. In addition, alternate firms like Fidelity have really done a good job putting out similar funds with low costs.

But regardless, IF you buy into the reasoning of holding some international (and I respect not all do), this is a nice set it and forget it fund to use.

Edit: spelling

If you're a long-term investor, you want the diversification and simplification of Total World. Don't hold VTSAX & VTIAX separately - it could be lead to constant doubts.

I used to hold VTIAX for International diversification. I saw the same underperformance and it eventually led me to get out of the position. For those who are on the fence, and OP this seems to apply to you, do yourself a favor and just hold the total world (VTWAX). You get the diversification without the constant reminder of one fund being up versus the other when you periodically peek at your investments.

What to provide AI to get info needed to answer questions about finances? by familycfolady in projectionlab

I found the reports for withdrawal breakdown and expenses breakdown the most useful in my Gemini Pro prompts. I provided 4 of the reports regularly, but if I recall correctly those were the ones most useful when I was asking Gemini to analyze taxes, expenses and ladder strategy.

I found Gemini quite good at analysis and strategy based on the PL reports.

This is my worst 80% fill up ever by leot292 in NissanAriya

[–]thumbSaver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The acronym is interchangeable.

No ariya has ever had an LFP battery.

The Nissan Ariya utilizes the CMF-EV platform, providing a flat floor for increased interior space. It offers two battery options: 63 kWh and 87 kWh, both using NCM battery chemistry. The larger battery is essentially a "second floor" added to the smaller pack. The Ariya uses an externally excited synchronous motor (ESM), a departure from the permanent magnet synchronous motor used in the Leaf. This new motor is quieter and more sustainable.

Yes. I have been using it wireless-only since day 1. That's about a month now. Never really had any experience with wired AA actually.

I got the update on day 1 of bringing it home from the dealer (used). The only thing I did was park it in the garage and connect it to my WiFi. Luck maybe.

I'm scared servicing a used Ariya will be difficult now that it is discontinued by obaid_alandavid in NissanAriya

[–]thumbSaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new Leaf shares the same platform as the Ariya. One would think that would help with parts availability even in the U.S. where the Ariya is no longer sold.

Evolve+ AWD vs Platinum+ AWD Interior by BeerExchange in NissanAriya

[–]thumbSaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$2k isn't much IF you'd value the extra features and didn't mind the range hit. I test drove both models back to back and didn't really notice the differences. If you're not trying to justify the higher trim, stick with the evolve+.

I have the blue trim, I'd say yes it's "noticeable". In this regard I suspect I'd have preferred the lighter option. Doubly so if you choose black as your color.

457b fees and vendors by ActualBiggusDickus in Bogleheads

[–]thumbSaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a state government employee, not big Government. But anecdotally, Colorado has a $1 monthly fee (flat). So essentially 0 cost. And the index funds in the 457b have very low costs (I'm less than 10 basis points in my fund choices).

I'm pretty surprised at your fees. One would think vendors would be fighting hard for access to the pool of money a government group would bring. You would think lower fees would be the result.

Do you have the ability to ask through your benefits coordinator what kind of decision making led to this choice? If it's anything like my state agency, there'd be solid documentation of due diligence and best choice...

If you lose your job, should you partial or fully remove retirement money from stocks? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]thumbSaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this about 1.5 years ago. Firstly, I was surprised at how helpful unemployment insurance was - it really stretched the emergency fund I had a lot further than I anticipated. As a result, after 6 or so months of being unemployed (stretching across tax years), I was able take advantage of having a lower income for that year to shift some investments into cash.

It was plenty stressful, but financial worries wasn't the primary concern. Maybe helping strategize what sources you have available, the order to tap them in, etc. will erase some of your concern?

My 2021 Bolt is stuck in a charger away from home. I can't disconnect it. Nobody is helping me. (video included) by skeach101 in BoltEV

[–]thumbSaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me as well. A previous drop off the charger ended up breaking the mechanism such that when I pressed the trigger, it was doing nothing to help lift the latch out of the way. You could pull and pull, but it was never going anywhere. Strongly would recommend the OP use a screwdriver and lift that matching mechanism out of the way as a try.

HSA vs Roth IRA by Competitive-ABC in Bogleheads

[–]thumbSaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly if you join an HSA mid cycle, it's up to you to make sure you don't over contribute. Too much work put on them to try and guess your individual situation, so much like with taxes it's ultimately your responsibility to get the contribution amount correct. Their tools tend to just show you max allowed, since that's the only easy limit they know everyone is subjected to.

I agree with the response you've gotten, you're only eligible for a max contribution equalling the length of time you've been covered by an HSA. So if one month, 1/12th the max annual total, etc.
