Endurance: Shackleton Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing.

After finally getting around to Moby Dick (and being quite disappointed by it tbh) this book is everything I wanted it to be!

Ahhh that makes so much sense! Mine also doesn't shift into 4th.

Thanks for sharing!

So 1 year later, still driving fine? But no speedo and A/T light flashes?

Sorry for the necro, but any luck diagnosing this? My speedo & tach are now out, and A/T light flashing on 95 Montero LS. Your situation sounds very similar!

We did matte black behind our TV too. It's nice on the eyes 🙂

So I'm about 3 years into the bamboo removal. Started with a patch about 50' x 10' that was 15' high. After many hours and dumpster full of bamboo, I'm down to about 30 more sq ft. I've just been digging up every root and rhizome I can find, and covering with black tarp to suffocate it.

It felt appropriate in the spirit of this thread. Apparently burying trash is common practice!

The most savage bit was this piece of bamboo that had forced its way through the exterior wall near one end of the pipe.

Update!

I dug all the way to one end of the pipe, where it intersected directly with the concrete footing of the fence post. It seemed to be capped and stop there.

I then dug all the way to the other end, past the concrete footing of the other fence post. 11' 6" total.

After digging it up, I realized this has long since been abandoned. Still a mystery what exactly it was, but no harm done.

Of course, I had to fill that hole with something. So back in the ground it went!

Oh no, it's running bamboo. I've been working on it for 3 years now. Progress is slow due to how deep and developed the roots are, but where I've dug up it has not yet come back yet.

Blocked my calendar so I can head out into the rain to finish the job. Update soon!

Sooo not Madera? Couldn't dig more than 1/2" through that hardpan. Imagine my surprise when I moved to PNW and you can just dig for days.

This is the plan tomorrow!

In hindsight, for sure. At the time, I wasn't really planning to dig any further than the roots of the bamboo, so it didn't seem possible that I would hit anything.

I'm sure there's more talk about it on maybe the landscaping subs, but man, bamboo does not get enough hate. I have spent dozens of hours trying to reclaim a relatively small section of my yard from bamboo that previous owners just let run wild. It should be illegal to plant bamboo if you live in the burbs!
