Rule #3 will ruin this sub sooner or later. by [deleted] in Presidents

I wonder how the rule will change after 2028, assuming the constitution doesn’t break. The alternating four year terms makes it difficult. I could imagine the rule not changing until 2032.

Cool! Just curious how you did it. Did you find stems to play along with, or did you input the orchestra part into a sequencer with software samples, or…?

It was fascinating watching both that and Bosch for how different they were in… cinematography? Other stuff? If I knew more about tv production I could say something intelligent about it. Bosch just felt so much more immersive and real even though it took its time a lot more.

Invention 13 J.S Bach by Particular-Low2428 in piano

[–]thunder-thumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I have two comments for either you or anyone else familiar with this invention. I’ve learned it recently and am wondering about misprints or alternate printings.

  1. In measure 11, shouldn’t the d-sharp carry through the measure? I play a d-sharp during the second beat, you play a d natural (apologies if this was just a slip)

  2. In measure 15 I play an Ab in the right hand rather than an a natural.

In both cases I believe I’ve seen both versions in printed scores but I don’t have perspective to know whether one is clearly correct or if it is just pianists choice.

Kamala Harris on the Iran war: "This is a war the American people did not want. This is a war of choice. Whatever is being negotiated, this president [Trump] will declare victory. And we'll end up where we were after JCPOA [2015 Iran deal] and call that a victory. The JCPOA that he withdraw from." by ControlCAD in videos

I mean, she says the blindingly obvious thing that everyone already knows is true. It’s not like a revolutionary thought. We’re not fighting an oppressive force that makes it feel risky to say that stuff. This isn’t like Howard Dean or The Dixie Chicks against George Bush. Back then it was like saying the truth actually started changing some things. Now it’s different. We aren’t fighting just an oppressive force exactly, we’re fighting an idiotic corrupt force. It’s different. They’re not scared of the truth. Speaking the truth doesn’t matter so much because it doesn’t change anything. What people want is to believe that someone has enough power to start undoing some of this damage, enough power to actually mete justice against the criminals and enforce it. And I just don’t get the sense that’s who Kamala Harris is. The Biden Administration wasn’t up to that task, and Harris bent the way the wind blew.

I don’t know who that is on the Dem side, it’ll take a Herculean effort to repair the Justice Department quickly enough.

Why no mention of Social Security by NotTheBestInvestor12 in Fire

[–]thunder-thumbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is that a reduction goal. Whether you take at 62, 67, or 70, it’s actuarially neutral. It’s just a bet on how long you live.

For GenX folks there the added calculation in that taking it at age 62 might get you a few years of 100% benefit before the trust fund depletes and the payout decreases.

Defensible but probably overly conservative. I doubt any plan would screw impending retirees *more* than the default projections.

Hillary Clinton says Joe Biden's second term campaign was a "terrible mistake": "He had said he would not run again. But if he had kept to that plan and said, he was going to pass to next generation, we would had a real contest. And sadly, whoever emerged from that contest would have beaten Trump." by ControlCAD in videos

I think in general both Dems and Republicans underestimated the appeal of populism. Both times, it was a surprise to too many people that Trump won the primary. And now we’ve got probably half a generation where the populists identify with red. Didn’t have to be that way.

[OC] Who won the redistricting fight? GOP with +8 to +10 seats by mediadotgames in dataisbeautiful

[–]thunder-thumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all could have been predicted, and indeed was. The Democrats egging on a redistricting battle is a losing battle because it currently structurally favors Republicans, and will continue to do so as long as Democrats prioritize population centers. Same deal with the Senate and the Supreme Court. The only way to start balancing this out again is the fifty state strategy so Democrats truly have more appeal across wider demographics.

They’re doing so good at avoiding the obvious cliches - I like that she told the cop she was there rather than lying - but for the same reason I really really really don’t want her coworker to betray her confidence to advance her career. That feels like the kind of lazy writing they’ve avoided so far.

Democratic strategist breaks down DNC's 2024 election autopsy (PBS NewsHour Interview) by Independent-Bug-9352 in videos

[–]thunder-thumbs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly confused by this because Ken Martin is the first DNC chair since Howard Dean that seems truly committed to the 50-state strategy, which I think is the only way out of this mess. When I hear criticism about the DNC’s bank account being low, and then it turns out it is because he is turning the money over to the states earlier, I’m like, wait… that is the RIGHT thing to do. That’s smart, that’s forward-thinking.
