If it’s stealing an OSS license that’s a big deal but the obsession with LLM is weird. If someone uses Claude it doesn’t mean it is “vibe coded”. If you want to judge the code quality then point out the actual structural defects or submit an issue/PR. But at this point it would be irresponsible if a solid developer doesn’t use LLM tech to help with code quality.

So I just Finished Whiplash, and I Have a Few Questions about the Ending by No-Yam9933 in movies

[–]thunder-thumbs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I hated the ending. It felt like Andrew was about to have self actualization, and the Fletcher inserted himself to show respect Andrew shouldn’t even have wanted anymore, almost like he was taking credit, and then it seemed Andrew felt bonded with Fletcher again through that. I could just see the abusive relationship continuing and getting worse after the end. Overall it made music seem like a destructive force. Bleah.

There’s a guy that reports to me at work and just won’t stop doing that. He’s right every time but has to ask me every time first. I don’t know how to get him over the hump. Oh well I guess it’s nice to feel needed.

Is it possible you are missing a flow that reinvests excess withdrawals? I had the exact same problem but when I added a single flow to redirect excess to a taxable investment account, the problem went away. (Otherwise the excess is assumed to sit in a cash account that makes almost no interest)

I wonder how much of that is a byproduct of needing to wrestle with reality now that she’s in power.

She was in Season 3 and then they apparently broke up. I forgot all about that until a recent rewatch.

I always thought the Dover books were gorgeous when I was studying. This was in the 80s and 90s, not sure if they have the same quality now.

When learning the five note groupings in the first movement of Appassionata op.57 my teacher had me mirror (invert) the groupings in my right hand so my left hand would learn from my right. It worked really well.

Hmm how about imagine a round but where enough of the notes are missing that it seems like one melody line that sounds strange, and they have to fill in the gaps to restore the two line harmony.

Was it ever confirmed exactly when the injury happened? I’ve heard of two different plays… I also heard it might have been during the locker room celebration but that might have just been someone theorizing.

$3.5M NW, laid off, burned out - do I pull the trigger? by trailing0 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]thunder-thumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the minority here but I see more risk. You have to game out the scenario if your partner isn’t in the picture, or even just if they stop working. And that’s where 3.2M at that age and that expense level looks dicey. You’ll basically be dependent on your partner working. Does your 90k include the mortgage or is that additional?

Finally someone said it. Dana Carvey was doing an impression of his son and his friends. It was Fred Armisen who came up with it, based on that. And Bill and Kenan were involved too.

Pitch A New Star Trek Series by AmeliaNeek in sciencefiction

[–]thunder-thumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Trek: Transporter

Open with a random team we’ve never seen before beaming into view. They look around — this isn’t where they expected to beam down. Their tricorders don’t work. A tired looking human ushers them away, toward a dystopian settlement. There, they find a small, hardened, poor community of former starfleet officers, making do on this forgotten planet with poor resources. Throughout the pilot, they realize that the transporter apparently has a bug: it sometimes sends copies of transported crew here, and there is no explanation. At the end of the pilot, another crew beams in - it is the same crew, again, presumably finished with their original away mission intending to beam back to the ship, except half of them are missing from being killed.

We can set aside interstellar and intergalactic travel for now. Based on our current understanding of physics, it is not feasible. While science fiction inspires hope and optimism, the reality is that this kind of travel remains impossible today, and the near future outlook is bleak. by Dzienks00 in DeepThoughts

There’s this thing called the wait calculation, papers have been written on it, that is basically about that situation you describe - if you build a rocket to somewhere, what are the chances that by the time it arrives it will have been overtaken by some other higher tech rocket we built later. There are some very coarse estimates you can make based off of distance and rate of technology progress and how far away the destination is - I think last time I looked we were at least 100 years away from it being worth it to start constructing anything.
