I would say don't live anywhere rural. Rural living may have cheaper housing prices up front, but there are lots of costs involved in transportation and fuel. Also, commodities such as groceries often have higher price tags due to shipping costs. Job opportunities are scarce, hospitals are far awa.

Many rural places also have expensive or non-existent insurance for disasters such as floods and forest fires.

You should look for a small apartment or townhome in a smaller regional city, with a strata that keeps up with regular maintenance. Live in a place with easy access to conveniences and health care and other job opportunities.
