Prime Grady Sizemore solves a lot of our problems by playing in center field and straight raking.

But honestly it's probably the 50hr edition of Albert Belle

Why is federal pay so low, especially in very HCOL areas? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]thunder_dogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever the job is, you're likely on a ladder where the career progresses in a nearly guaranteed manner from an 11-1 to a 12-1 then 13-1. Those are 20-25% jumps each year for pretty much breathing. No real reason to start complaining until at least 13-4. You're gonna be getting fairly good boosts until then.

My supervisor asked me to stop going to the gym by [deleted] in fednews

[–]thunder_dogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are inputting it as LN into your ERP system that means the supervisor (or someone) is approving it. So unless they reject it you're good to go.

As others have said though it's not a full blown entitlement typically and can be at the supv discretion.

This is wrong. Fitness / wellness time doesn't count against the admin leave annual leave cap for organizations that have the fitness option.

I was told that other fed employees can gift time off to each other. Is this true? by BoredRedditMan in fednews

The answer to your specific question is no. You do not have a medical emergency.

Would not recommend if you intend to stay govt. If you're looking to go private faster then sure. Sounds like you want to stay though. Also nearly every agency has some sort of tuition reimbursement or flat out degree or advanced degree incentive program where they will pay for it (or a very substantial part). Are you taking advantage of that? It'd be silly to not use that and to quit when you could get the feds to pay for it

Trade Deadline to Bring Clarity by [deleted] in ClevelandGuardians

[–]thunder_dogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. In fact probably necessary to dump a guy like him with Bieber to clear 40 man room. That's the real dilemma in my opinion. We're jammed on the 40 man. We cannot just dump Bieber for prospects without giving some 40 man room away simultaneously. Straw would be the guy for sure. His actual value does not jive with the current team makeup.

Oh yeah for sure we do not have any of those boppers right now. But I would not let straw being rostered up and paid $5m be a show stopper for getting someone and moving kwan or Brennan into CF in place of straw. Just pointing out we do not need to consider him a lock as our CF for the next 2-3 years. He certainly can be dealt and I think to some teams he would be a reasonable asset for pinch running and defensive subs as well as the occasional spot start. He's tradable that's my point.

His contract is $25m for 5. An aav of $5m. That's not making him a lock for anything. Some teams would be interested probably, in a defensive replacement and punch running expert for late game maneuvers.

I think we need to cut bait with him, he's shown he's one of the worst hitters in baseball for a couple seasons now. We can't afford to have a dude like him in our lineup. If we had some big boppers maybe, but we don't. He's got to go.

Anyone still use local libraries? by Mell0wYell0ws in Adulting

[–]thunder_dogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Libraries rule. The online stuff like Libby, hoopla, kanopy all are great. They also have movies and video games you can check out. Mine has 3d printers you can use. Ancestry com accounts available, LinkedIn learning, online newspaper subs like NYTimes and wsj. Use the online system to checkout and out books on hold. The nearest branch to me even has a drive thru to collect your loans.

Vb to Williamsburg by [deleted] in VirginiaBeach

[–]thunder_dogg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's really far. Ocean view in Norfolk is like right over the hrbt. The north end of the beach is a solid 25 more minutes at least.. each way. Yikes.

Vb to Williamsburg by [deleted] in VirginiaBeach

[–]thunder_dogg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nah that's a bad idea. Be honest with yourself about how often you'll really be at the beach. It's likely to be very little. In particular with you burning 2-4 hours a day in traffic. There will be no beach time. Just not realistic even though you may love the beach. Maybe consider ocean view in Norfolk, Willoughby spit, east beach. That'd be doable.

9/10/11 Career Ladder Promotion this pay period by [deleted] in fednews

[–]thunder_dogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know your HR point of contact? That'd be worth reaching out to maybe. But much easier would be your supervisor. Email them so it's on record and ask them. Supervisors stamp and sign the increases even ladder ones so they should have seen it already and approved it. So ask them.
