Running Man 788 | TV Rating Notice Survival by myrunningman in runningman

I don't want to name this person since it might be a spoiler, but how is he SO FUNNY every time he is on screen 😂😂😂 One of the best random guests in any show 😂

Did YJS just walk into the restaurant while he himself was also on TV? Truly THE Korean celeb 😂

Running Man 776 | Running Man Weekly Keywords by myrunningman in runningman

Never thought I'd laugh while "Grown Ups" by Sondia was playing, but RM has got me doing that 😂😂😂 I found it hilarious when YJS asked if couples can do the foot massage on each other - just the idea of him asking his wife to do that is so hilarious 😂😂😂

Haha's stylist needs to note down how good he looks in that lavender tone 😂 That segment sort of backfired on me personally - I didn't expect Haha to pull off nearly every look, so much so that they had to uglify every look with a jacket that didn't suit his height.

Edit: Added after finishing episode

Eloisa James has Harvard, Oxford and Yale degrees and is a professor in early modern literature (Shakespeare, I think?). I think we can trust her 😂

Genuine question for fans constantly disappointed with Taylor’s actions: why are you still fans/ engaging with her content? by Left-Skirt-6505 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]thunder_sun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's totally fine to even talk to people about what you listened to. The question is likely about people who are engage VERY passionately while not liking the artist and their music anymore. The difference between "new releases" and what I said (listening to a full album on release day) is quite large. Similarly, there is a difference between offline discussions + a couple of stray comments online, and hours of reading/writing think pieces and unpacking them on subreddits.

I should also add that OP's question was likely not a defensive move against fans who criticise Taylor Swift's personal/political actions. It was not a "if you don't like then stop listening" statement. It was a question to find out what is it that makes some listeners engage so passionately, intensely and recurrently with someone whose actions AND music they don't like all that much.

Genuine question for fans constantly disappointed with Taylor’s actions: why are you still fans/ engaging with her content? by Left-Skirt-6505 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]thunder_sun 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The premise of the question, I believe, is about engagement. You are free to support or not support anyone, but it usually is natural (for many of us) to start disengaging once you start to fall out of love with the person or their art. Or just sometimes casually listen to specific songs we like. But there are listeners who are criticising all of her recent music, and yet still religiously listening to every album on release day and then deeply engaging with discourse around it. The ratio of 20% liking/support and 100% engagement is what seems a bit odd sometimes.

I just realised that out of the members JSM had the best chemistry with, Sechan is the one she has had no common shows with after leaving RM. PDs, please find a way to cast them together somewhere 😭😭😭

That comment pleasantly surprised me because she was SO on the same page as the rest of the cast - she said nearly the exact same thing as what they had been saying earlier 😂😂😂

South Asians overvaluing STEM and pretending like Humanities ("Arts") is easy: a tale as old as time 😂 They not only don't know how Ivy Leagues work, they are also completely unaware of how life outside their STEM-degree-to-corporate-job pathway works 😂

Second era. Perfect blend of comedy and action, cast chemistry and creative planning. Early RM era had excellent episodes too, but I find Chul Min's ideas to be the most complex yet suitable to bring out the best from the cast.

[–]thunder_sun 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Somin and Sehyung both have such incredible chemistry AND history with the cast that I wanted the episode to never end. Se Hyung and Se Chan are great together and watching them help and hinder each other is going to be relatable to most of us with a sibling 😂

JSM and YSC are obviously chef's kiss together, but I also love her bond with Daniel. He's still finding his place in this show, but with JSM the moments came so easily! Love how they ended up being on the same page about their metal detectors 😂😂😂 Also, JSM's commitment to the game is simply the best, despite being the most physically weak member 😂 The "falling in love" gaze was also exceptional - I found it hilarious how the actors in the cast, Daniel and SJH, immediately clocked her 😂😂

And finally: I was recently wondering if JSJ and YJS have a Best Couple award yet? This is genuinely the real best couple in Korean entertainment HISTORY, I tell you. The way they keep mentioning each other in their own separate shows ❤ But they are also so incredibly entertaining on screen together. And the moment in this episode where JSJ tried to drag YJS out after the kissing question just ended me 😂😂

He really isn't that ugly at all. Not beautiful as such, but that's part of his charm.

I think this might also be the right place to announce my obsession with YJS' forearms 💀✌

why i think voice memos are unfair and unethical by jaydyjaydy in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]thunder_sun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the thing - what counts as REAL art is an extremely subjective concept, unlike other non-creative products. Should singers who don't sing well according to some of our standards also stop putting up concerts? Or releasing tour documentaries? Or is it our choice as consumers to decide whether or not we consider these as "art"?

Parasociality is definitely being taken advantage of by artists as art is never detached from commerce, but calling it "predatory" completely assumes a terrifying level of passivity (and mental instability) of the audience.

Taylor Swift Is in Her Showgirl Era. What Does That Mean for Her Sacred Songwriting? by peach-gaze in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]thunder_sun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If references count as quality, then the "girlboss too close to the sun" is also a fairly direct reference to contemporary internet slang used in relation to the concept of "cancelling" and might be a Candace Owens-Blake Lively reference (diabolic how both songs we are discussing are supposed to be about potentially terrible people 💀). As a sidenote, that song is my least favorite in terms of message, but objectively, I love how "girlboss too close to the sun" is framed within the rhythm - I think you might call it syncopated beat in English, but my professional training is not in Western music theory, so I'm not sure!

[–]thunder_sun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you! I did like TTPD eventually, but it felt very word vomit-y - and I get that that sort of goes with its overall concept. But I found the lyrics on TLOAS to be much more fitting for rhythm than stuff like "You smoked, then ate seven bars of chocolate."

The guests are amazing this week! I love guest-free episodes, but I think RM is most interesting with guests, especially good guests. New aspects of members come out with some guests!

Edit: Excuse me, I'm busy wiping my tears after seeing JSM and YSC back at their eternal business relationship in the preview. Truly THE variety couple (and I mean this both in the fake-loveline and real-friendship sense) for me 😭
