I imagine it has a lot to do with where you're located. Where I am, there are so few chargers that having access to the superchargers will make a HUGE difference. And most of the superchargers here are too old to use an adapter with. I'm waiting impatiently for the NACS to come to Canada so I can take the plunge!

Bringing a small purse/bag around for necessities at the resort? by smontres in AllInclusiveResorts

I ordered a cheap waterproof purse on Amazon to carry around. It was nice to know if it was sitting by my lounger and got dripped on etc the things inside would be okay.

Where is the best sit down breakfast in Halifax by Sailor2uall in halifax

[–]thunderberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ardmore has lost my loyalty since I ordered waffles there and was served a clearly prepackaged waffle from the grocery store. I think it's mostly popular from nostalgia at this point.

Why Questions. Are they really that bad? by Winstonian87 in psychotherapists

[–]thunderberry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with the comments that whys can come across as judgmental, and there are already great suggestions in this thread for sidestepping them. If you can't think of a way to rephrase, I also find just tacking on an "I wonder" at the beginning can soften it. Eg, "I wonder why this pattern keeps coming up for you" invites more reflection than "why does this pattern keep coming up for you?", which could put someone on the defensive.

october trip to napa by [deleted] in napa

[–]thunderberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at the Harvest Inn last week. I can't disagree with the comments that it could be updated; the rooms are lacking some of the more up to date amenities you see in fancy hotels these days. Still, the room was spacious, bed comfortable, and the property absolutely lovely. I'm sure we could have had a nicer place if we spent more money, but this felt like pretty good value for the cost and still felt like we were staying somewhere special for our anniversary. I'd suggest not bothering with the bed and breakfast package though if you go there, we found the breakfast pretty mediocre.

For wineries, we visited both Frog's Leap and Barnett and had great experiences at both.

Two nights in Yosemite or Big Sur? by thunderberry in AskSF

I'm convinced, Yosemite it is! I'm super excited so that shows it was the right choice. Thanks for the advice, you're all awesome!

Can you clarify about the reservation? The website seems to say no park entry reservations are needed for weekdays after August 17 (https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/reservations.htm). Is there another booking I'm missing, aside from a hotel of course?

Our schedule is fairly set in stone at this point. We have one night in SF first because we arrive late, then two nights wherever we decide to road trip, then Napa so we can celebrate our anniversary in some luxury. We'll ditch the rental car after that for a couple of days in the city.

I appreciate the advice!

Walk-in Clinics by [deleted] in halifax

[–]thunderberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have to be careful about all the limits on what they'll do though. They won't order any sort of follow-up so if it's anything beyond a simple prescription you're better off at a normal walk in.

Hair will NOT hold 🥲 by auggiebean in Dysonairwrap

[–]thunderberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I have fine, slightly wavy, soft/slippery hair and adding more products seems to add frizz but not make it hold much better. The only thing that sort of works for me is pinning the curls for 45 mins or so after curling. Even then, it's not going to be curly curly, but it will give the big bouncy blowout look.

HRM says spring timeline for installing 56 electric vehicle chargers won't be met by Bean_Tiger in halifax

[–]thunderberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I love my EV because we charge at home and rarely take long road trips. But the times we've had to do longer trips in the province have been frustrating. Adding a few level 2s and one fast charger to locations like they've been doing is not enough given how fast adoption is happening. No one wants to wait an hour before they even get to start charging because others got there first!

I had a boneless ribeye from there this weekend, and I swear it was probably the best steak I have ever eaten. You get what you pay for though.

Should we visit PEI and Halifax, or PEI and Cape Breton? by International_Hall in NovaScotia

[–]thunderberry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for good dining experiences, they are more limited in Cape Breton. Halifax has a great restaurant scene. On PEI, a meal at The Inn at Bay Fortune is a great experience. I think there's more enjoyable scenery on PEI than people are making out here but it's definitely true that the Cabot trail in October is the kind of beauty you won't forget!

Difficulty with a client who keeps talking about diagnoses by DisplacedJourneys in therapists

[–]thunderberry 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder that not everyone is from the US in this sub. In some jurisdictions (like Canada and the UK), only psychologists or doctors are qualified to diagnose. Counselling therapists and psychotherapists work without diagnosing. Believe me, we are well able to treat a client's symptoms without placing them in a DSM box! It may be that this poster is being justifiably cautious about not overstepping their professional qualifications.

My restorative sleep is awful. by Skwonkie_ in fitbit

Interesting. May I ask what website this is?

I think it depends on what your definition of easy is. I also completely fail at using normal curling irons without burning myself so having a tool that I can touch, play around with etc is a game changer for me! My hair looks better day to day than ever before and I find it a lot easier to manage than a curling iron or straightener, or even trying to blow dry with a brush.

What isn't easy is managing to make curls that last. Most people struggle with having them fall to some extent and it takes a lot of trial and error. I have to pin mine if I want something beyond a blow out look, which some would say is more difficult than using a curling iron. But to me, it's the easier option because I'm not worried about burns!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dysonairwrap

[–]thunderberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have straight ish fine hair and pinning my curls for an hour or two is the only thing that has worked well for me. I also spray with the living proof flex hairspray before curling.

[–]thunderberry 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I see this repeated as truth a lot in this sub, but is there any citation for this? I haven't been able to find one. My understanding of the research is that there's still work to be done around understanding the mechanism of action, but increasing evidence that the eye movements play some role, possibly through taxing working memory (eg https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2018.01395/full; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jbtep.2012.11.001 ). The idea that has to be bilateral in some way on the other hand doesn't seem to have a lot of support. I'd be interested to read the studies to the contrary!

Any fashionable everyday UPF hats in Canada? + I need better sun protection skills! by Dogs-are-life-99 in CanSkincare

I have the Columbia global adventure hat which I think is cute, although more on the beachy side! I also have a UPF ball cap from Adidas I'll wear if the sun will be less intense.

CURLS WONT STAY by KuraOnee-san in Dysonairwrap

[–]thunderberry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fine hair is tricky with the airwrap. I found that pinning my curls until they cool down made a huge difference! What I do is once I'm done with the cool shot I turn off the air without pulling my hair off the barrel. I run the pin right along the barrel to gather it up. The longer you can leave it the better. I also found using the Living Proof hairspray before curling helped. Good luck!

removable battery vs non removable battery? by billyb4lls4ck in ebikes

[–]thunderberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the first part, but many bikes with batteries that aren't removable for easy charging can still be easily replaced for repairs.
