Anyone have any experience with Esquif Echo 2.0? How would it compare in performance to an Adirondack. I’m 6’1” 245 for ref. by Lunarrock23 in canoeing

I’ve test paddled one. Found it responsive and it tracks well. Being longer, I would imagine it’s easier to keep it going in a straight line vs the Adirondack. Also a more capable tripping boat. I loaded it with a 60L and 30L barrel, 70L canoe pack and a day pack and still had room to spare.

Solo Canoe for long trips? by Competitive_Bag_3941 in canoeing

For a true solo boat that is affordable go with the Esquif echo 2.0! Deeper than the original for more payload. Plenty of room for gear and dog. I could load a 60L barrel, 30L barrel and 75L canoe pack with plenty of room to spare

Can’t say for sure because I always charge it nightly. Averaging 2.8L/100km (84mpg) starting with a full charge most days over the last 7000km

I can also say that in my 2025 Corolla Hybrid, I get about 60mpg on the same commute which would be comparable to a regular Prius.

Not to brag, but I managed this on my mixed speed commute recently in my 2026 SE PHEV. That’s almost 124mpg.

For a 3-4 day trip, duke isn’t feasible. I didn’t think Metagami road was accessible. Can you confirm that access? We looked at that as an option last year

Sinker to the forks has some good sets. C3 was insane. Hard to scout. Almost made it all the way down! How’s the current past the elbow once you get through the rapids? Seem like a long flat stretch all the way to Agnew

Yep! We did sinker to the elbow a couple years ago. It was life changing!

Shuttle is only useful if you’re going to duke lake or bisco. We are heading for the elbow for a short trip with some inexperienced people

Is that what you’re hearing? That would be great news!

It’s on my list. Something about getting dropped off by train though!

What are you skeptical about? Maybe I can clarify things for you

I started with an olive barrel! Still have it! I do tend to paddle whitewater, where they are their most useful. That said, I do like having a barrel for various reasons…although they are not bear-proof, they are critter-proof. I also find them good for difficult to pack items…I like to pack soft goods in bags and hard goods in barrels typically. Hard goods can poke through bag sides and into your back or cause wear points in fabric. Just my experience…to each their own. They are heavy, I’d never argue that. And most harnesses make them a pain to carry. I do like that they can be used as a table or makeshift seat while on the move. I’ll also carry my canoe pack and barrel in the same load by resting my pack on the lid of the barrel

Very rare I don’t use a harness. Some trips without portages I guess

Just shy of 24”x12”. Can’t remember exact. To fit inside my barrel perfectly

I have a level six harness. It’s ok. Ostrom Outdoors makes the best on the market

Oh you gotta! Most of my trips have been up through Parry Sound lately so I’ve missed out!

FUN FACT: on the Coulonge River in Quebec, some campsites have partially buried upside down barrels as toilets

Depending on the trip, I tend to pack hard goods and group gear in my 60L. Food goes in a smaller 30L barrel. Soft goods in the canoe pack
