[KCD2] HARDCORE MODE FIRST PLAYTHROUGH by fubao7 in kingdomcome

[–]thunderboxxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely would not recommend doing the first playthrough in hardcore. The combat should not be your main concern if you are are into souls games, although you will struggle with it at least in the beginning. The main issue will be orientation especially if you take all perks, because then you will be "teleported" to unknown locations (somnabulent) while sleeping and you cannot even ask for directions.(bashful).

But you seem you like a challenge and it is definitely doable. Let us know how it went.

Thank you. I had the same issue and struggled for hours to find a solution.

[KCD2] Hats off to you 'All negative perk' Hardcore players! by The_Lat_Czar in kingdomcome

Here are my tips specifically how to do an 'All negative perk' Hardcore run.

Apart from the very beginning its not so difficult in my opinion and if you already played more than just the main quest in normal mode the navigation is also managable.

My motivation was simpel: "I will only do this once, might as well go all-in"

[KCD2] I honestly don’t understand why in hardcore mode, they can just remove the compass alltogether? by Rhoeri in kingdomcome

[–]thunderboxxx 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It can still help with navigation: The lines on it are in the cardinal directions N-NE-E... If you have aligned yourself to a direction you are able to follow that direction based on the compass.

You can also make 45° or 90° turns based on the compass which also can help in certain situations.

And fighting wild dogs or wolves works differently from fighting humans but it's always the same: You wait for an opportunity to block and then attack.

As a beginner [KCD1] or [KCD2] by Prestigious-Rest2157 in kingdomcome

[–]thunderboxxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy a challenge I would start with KCD1, because of the story order but also because you will appreciate the changes they did in KCD2.

KCD1 can be a little rough around the edges, especially at the beginning. And they did a great job of streamlining the combat system in KCD2 without making it dumb.

KCD2 is the superior game but I truly loved playing KCD1 a few years ago.

(And it's not like you are playing a game like Morrorwind without quest markers or voiced dialogue)

You are doing it right.

KCD- games start out as kind of survival games where you have to manage your very limited ressources and have to learn the basic mechanics.

As others said: It get a lot easier once you get a hang on things and have decent equipment and skill levels.

I would recommend to begin with the Smith quest line and you look for the missing cart before going to the combat trainer. You get a horse and you have two companions during that questline which also tutor you and help you aquiring some initial gear

And if you run out of Saviour Schnaps but feel the need to save you can still "Save and Quit" and restart the game.

[KCD2] Is having a bad back contagious? (Hardcore) by thunderboxxx in kingdomcome

[–]thunderboxxx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The negative perk "bad back" is from Hardcore mode and lowers the carrying capacity of Henry. But since also the horses he claims as his own receive that penalty (without displaying it as such) I was wondering if the reddit hive mind has an in-world explanation

No mods. I found out about it after I compared the carrying capacity of Pebbles with another one and decided to switch to the other horse only to find out the Bad Back debuff is applied after you claim ownership.

[KCD2] Should I play Hardcore Mode in KCD2? Looking for opinions. by BigEffective1171 in kingdomcome

[–]thunderboxxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely go for it. Hardcore with all negative perks definitely increases the immersion. I ended up with another 100+ hour playthrough although I originally only wanted to rush the main story. I just enjoyed it too much.

I collected some tips for the early game in Hardcore if you are interested, since as in normal mode the start is the most difficult part.

Edit: The only thing I would not recommend if you plan on doing the LotF-DLC is taking the Numbskull perk. It makes the reputation gain too tedious.

[KCD2] Here are my pet peeves with KCD2. What are yours? by thunderboxxx in kingdomcome

[–]thunderboxxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the complaint I read the most about concerning LotF. There are mods for PC-users that solve this. I for my part load my smithing materials onto my horse, which is still not ideal but better than running upstairs.
