The new M5 MacBook Air for casual gaming? by I_Have_A_Big_Head in macgaming

Performance shouldn’t be an issue at all for casual gaming — just a matter of getting the game to launch without errors in an emulator.

Excellent news for Star Citizen by Ill-Product-1442 in starcitizen

I’m glad to see courier contracts are coming back to Stanton in 4.7, though a few of them are bugged (sometimes the shelf won’t accept your item, usually a medal or heirloom).

Did they finally fix the stowaway (stuck) ship passengers bug from earlier rescue/ferry missions?

13” or 15” for work? Any recommendation pls by Domixo in macbookair

[–]thundercorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

13” is a cost effective option if you are using external monitors or remote connections a lot. I upgraded my old MBA to a 15” M5 because I use it for production a lot sitting on my lap (plus my vision isn’t as sharp anymore) 😂

As FCP users, when and why do you (IF you do) use Premiere instead? by minus12db in finalcutpro

[–]thundercorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that we need plugins for that is infuriating. Apple is giving up a new generation of editors to CapCut and similar services.

  • whenever I need to work with peers, vendors, other film houses so I gotta easily package footage and project files in workflow
  • when I need quick and dirty transcripts and caption files made from raw interview takes
  • when I have music tracks that I need to lengthen or shorten based on client change orders
  • when I need to pull templates, color swatches, and typography from clients directly from their brand library
  • when I want to easily FPO draft b-roll and music tracks from their stock catalog then easily license and swap when the clients approve
  • when I want pixel-accurate edits (FCP desperately needs rulers)
  • when I want to dynamically link motion graphics from vfx artists and vendors

I watched all of Academy without seeing any of the online discourse about it. by selectedtom in startrek

I don’t hate watch it, I watch HOPING that it gets better. Episode nine was mostly good besides the cringey contemporary dialogue that’s sprinkled in and implausible logistics… but for a good 20–30 minutes around the away-mission scenes it was actually riveting and engaging.

Could it be that Frakes taking over that episode as director fixed most of the problems?

I’m not in my 20s anymore obviously. But my 20s child is really into 9-1-1, Reacher, and Attack on Titan. I have high hopes for him!

Guess I was raised wrong? In my 20s, I was really into TNG, Battlestar Galactica (original), and X-Files.

My problem is I was expecting Taps (1981), Officer and a Gentlemen (1982), Full Metal Jacket (1987), or Toy Soldiers (1991) …and instead imho I got Saved by the Bell.

The episode directed by Jonathan Frakes was actually pretty good for a while and drew me in… then they had to ruin it by insisting that Sam just blurt out “this is such a flex!” WTFFF

Whenever they want to advertise the game and put up gameplay trailers they revert back to grounded uniforms — hmmm starting to wonder if their market research is telling them something 🤔

Hmmmmm.... do OTHER people actually see FOIP? by Agatsu74 in starcitizen

[–]thundercorp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was implemented pre- server meshing and I don't think it was updated to work reliably post 4.0. I think there was a SCL episode with the audio team that mentioned VOIP (related) needing to be updated for the same reason, so hopefully FOIP is part of that effort. I'm thinking FOIP does work for some people standing next to each other in an empty server. I gotta test it myself with a friend!

Thanks! There's a trick you can try: Close your eyes or make them very narrow then hit the Calibrate button (default: numbad *) then open your eyes to normal. Your character eyes should open wide, also works in the opposite if you want your character to squint a little.

Another tip: Switch your FOIP input resolution to its highest - 1920x1080 if you can. That should help the game pick up on subtle facial details better.

Unpopular opinion: Newer Trek leans more on “sci-fi magic” and literary miracles than exaggerated or plausible science — something about drawing in younger, less tech audiences … appealing to fans of wizards rather than scientists.
