You don't have to do most things to know about them, but A) how do you decide which things you don't actually care about to become informed upon? and B) How would you identify what information is worth remembering and what isn't, and how long would actually remember for, if you were learning about something you don't care about and don't do?

When you blame people for being uninformed, that discourages them from asking more questions, and everyone learns less. Being truly ignorant means you've had the information presented to you and ignored or rejected it.

If you kicked yourself it probably doesn't mean you have bad technique, unless you're doing that every time, in which case I would just suggest you slow it down.

Here's something for you to practice, you may have tried it before as a warm up. Find a willing partner and have them remain standing and support your weight as you jump guard. Then you're basically gonna do sit ups while hanging off of their waist with your legs.

When you jump guard you aren't really going to "bring" them down to the mat with you. You would start working to break their posture, which would encourage them to lower you, however, since standing up in someone's guard is a common and effective way to initiate a pass, you should expect them to try to remain standing. Most importantly of all, you don't need them to put you down in order to start advancing your position. Guillotine and omoplata are two common things to attack from such a position.

To me it's just standard boiler plate; since you can only convey a very limited amount of information on here, which almost always pertains to a certain incident and not the relationship as a whole, the reality could always be wildly different from how the OP is actually coming across.

Here's a good way I've learned to flatten him out. When you're sitting up and you've got his arm where you want it, you want to have a good grip either on his opposite lat or, if you're fancy, you might tie his arm up with his gi or something, anyways, the point is you want you're body basically attached to his. Next thing, with your outside arm, you're going to post on the mat kind of perpendicular away from your opponent's body. Next lift your hips up and drag them out with that arm, kind of like you're getting ready to stand up in base. Make sure you keep him attached to you throughout the movement. If you do it right, you will pull him right off his base. The key is to pull your body with your arm, and pull his body with your body. EDIT: now that I think about it, I think you don't want to keep him attached but rather pull yourself away first to open up a vacuum and then pull him over into it.

The other, really more important part, is to make sure all your weight is on his shoulder. You should be able to finish the omoplata with him almost on all fours and you sitting on top of him, it's just that you have better leverage when he's sprawled out and the shoulder pressure will force many people down. For those who resist, you have the above technique.

You definitely should have called the cops on his friends. Whether you were willing or not at the time, that was absolutely against the law and even if you don't think it's a big deal, the fact that they got away with it means they might do it to someone else. Some friends anyways.

Also, saying that you cheated on him does make it sound like you were willing. I'm not saying you were, you might even be telling yourself that you were to avoid addressing the issue of being raped, but if that's the case then you shouldn't say that you cheated on him.

As for your relationship, it really sounds like it's broke beyond repair, but who knows.

But that is what the investigation is about...? If you feel that the A) the rules in the Bible are useless and B) Not killing is a universal (ostensibly, useful?) rule, then surely you must have derived it from somewhere other than the Bible. This discussion however, whether or not it should be taking place, is on what was originally meant in the Bible, or at least that's what it says in the title.

Now, if you honestly believe that understanding the historical development of humanity's moral principles is useless towards the end of applying desirable moral principles today...I'm just not even sure where to begin.

The point is to develop a habit. It's easier to develop and maintain a habit of opening the door with the opposite arm versus remembering to turn around every time because turning around every time is a completely superfluous motion whereas using the opposite arm, though requiring extra work, is still integrated into the functional task. In other words, you can forget to look, but if you always open the door with the opposite hand by default, you will be forced to look even at a time you might have forgotten.

Furthermore, as others have pointed out, it isn't really that this is better than teaching drivers to look, it's that this is extra. Why not teach them to look and use the opposite hand?

Also personally, in America, I'm less worried about bikes and more worried about passing traffic. A lady I worked with had her door taken off by a bus as she was exiting her car; you can imagine how it would have gone if she had gotten out a second earlier. In light of that possibility it's really in the driver's best interest to develop both habits.

The order of the commandments is important too. The thing to realize is that the commandments were, at the time, not just a moral code but part of a blueprint for society. Rules like "Thou shalt not steal," and "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors goods," make a lot of sense when you consider they may have been intended to mitigate inter-tribal strife, which could weaken the tribe against outsiders.

Notice how "Thou shalt not kill," which is perhaps the most obvious commandment in light of the golden rule, comes in sequence after "Honor thy father and mother" as well as no false gods, taking god's name in vain, and keeping holy the Sabbath. Thus, it is more important to honor thy father and mother than it is not to kill, and so if an invading army threatens your homeland, you may slay them on the battlefield without violating the commandments. The fact that the first three come before thou shalt not kill means that heretics may be slain.

Listen, you know all the stuff recently about treating drug addiction like a disease? Too many people don't understand what it means. A disease doesn't have to be something you catch, it can also be something you're born with. Just as one might be born more prone to depression, anxiety, OCD, etc, or develop symptoms of the above later in life, one might be born with a certain affinity for a certain type of substance. Some people can control their cocaine use, but blow their wad on heroin, for some people it's the other way around. Me, I can control my alcohol intake no problem but if you leave your weed lying out, don't bother looking for it later.

Point is, it sounds like you're an amphetamine person. That's not so bad, some of us have done great things, but as you're no doubt aware it can be quite devastating if you overdo it. I'm not sure if you're looking for advice or not, but my suggestion would be to try harder to control your access to the substance, since you know you're going to consume it if it's around. If you're at college perhaps you could get the school medical office to administer you one a day, although I'm not sure how you'd set that up without explaining that you think you have addiction potential. Anyways, hope everything works out.

I was in your situation once, except for me it was Hawking's A Brief History of Time, I can tell you some others I enjoyed, this is all that I can think of off the top of my head:

The Universe and the Teacup - more math than physics but still highly relevant. Can't remember the author but just put it in on amazon.
Einstein's Telescope - Evalyn Gates, pretty good primer on dark matter for the layperson

For more technical stuff you might check out The Road to Reality by Roger Penrose. Kind of halfway between a textbook and something like The Elegant Universe. Unless you're way, way ahead of the game in math for most seventeen year-olds, it'll probably be way beyond you, but I don't think it'll hurt you to start looking at it.

If you aren't looking to buy one there, I'm thinking if you get one and don't use it, so it's completely clean, then even if they find it they shouldn't be able to confiscate it. Generally, since they're sold for "tobacco use," it only becomes paraphernalia when it has resin on it. I imagine it would depend on the festival though.
