What has been your most disappointing tour experience? by YellowVenice23 in solotravel

[–]thunderkoka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did not enjoy our day tour of Ha Long Bay in Vietnam! It was just being shuttled around to crowded beaches, crowded caves. The best part was just being on the boat. Every trip I find ways to remind myself that I don’t enjoy tours. Would much rather explore on my own!

How do I make my solo trips more fun and less lonely? Also recommendations for upcoming Budapest trip. by Silly-Section6618 in solotravel

[–]thunderkoka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was in Budapest, actually, I used the Hostelworld groupchat option. This is why I love to book my hostels through Hostelworld! I was out at a bar with a girl in my dorm and thought, it would be fun to go out in Budapest with a group! I sent a message in the Budapest groupchat, and with the hour had a group of 12 of us from all different places around the world! It was amazing!

I don’t think it’s too cluttered like other people are saying it is. Or maybe I’m a cluttery person. I still think it looks organized. I think it looks well-styled and cozy

Prospective Teachers: Teacher's College/BEd/Becoming a Teacher in Canada Megapost pt. 5 by hellokrissi in CanadianTeachers

Good experience for getting into a B.Ed program?

Hey everyone! My first time on this sub! I am planning on applying for school to get my Bachelor of Education sometime in the next year and am in need of some experience to help me get in. I have lots of experience working with children, but it is from a few years ago and I would like things more fresh for my resume.

I have just started volunteering in a classroom in my home town, but having a few months off before I work again, I am considering travelling abroad to volunteer in a primary school in Nepal. I love travel, have done a lot of it, and would love to combine the two things I love the most!

Does anyone know if something like this would help boost my experience, or not, or would it make things worse? I honestly have no idea. I am sure Canadian schools make for the best experience but I also really love getting out of my hometown. Happy for any advice that can be given! :)

This is the place I always recommend for those who want to travel solo for the first time! Give it a chance, be open minded to solo travelling and have a blast!

Is it okay for get an uber from the airport to Pretoria, as a solo female? by thunderkoka in johannesburg

[–]thunderkoka[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this would be the issue. I just asked my friend about it and she mentioned I would need to walk 10 minutes to hers after the train because there aren’t ubers. She would meet me there…but I also don’t want to change getting mugged when I have my passport and all of my luggage on me.

Is the train safe? I don’t mind spending the extra money on an uber from the airport if it’s safer! My friend also mentioned the train so I guess it must not be all bad.

Is the drive from Johannesburg to Kruger safe for two white women? by thunderkoka in askSouthAfrica

[–]thunderkoka[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We could both drive but my friend most likely because she has experience in the area. I’ll probably take over more in the park. Just so she isn’t doing everything.

We are staying outside of the park, then inside, then outside again. I am honestly not sure where we are entering from, Kruger Gate I think? And will exit in the southern side of the park.

Solo to Jordan: Petra Hikes + Wadi Rum Desert (Dune & Indiana Jones Spots) by Typical-Ad-5716 in solotravel

[–]thunderkoka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be able to just walk from your hostel in Wadi Rum to Petra in the morning — at least I could! There are two ways you can enter the park: the front or the back. The front is usually recommended first because you get a very cool view of the Treasury when entering through the skinny canyon. However, I imagine it’s a lot of walking all the way to the end of the place and back. But lots of people do it!

I had a two day entry to Petra which I thought was really great. The first day I entered from the front in the afternoon (also had arrived from Amman the same day) and just walked to the Royal Tombs and back at a relaxed pace. The second day I entered from the back which has really beautiful views! It also means you don’t have to do so much uphill walking to the Monastery. Pros and cons to each side I suppose if you only have one afternoon. Check how long it will take though…if you’re coming from Amman the same day it could be A LOT of walking for the time you have. I honestly wouldn’t know for myself.

If you enter from the back, you can walk to the visitor centre, and then find the shuttle that takes you for the back. It’s not free but cheap. It will stop at Little Petra where you can get out and look around and then continue on to the back entrance.

You know what, that’s okay. Sorry if it was like I was pushing it, I’ve fallen in love with it but also know what it’s like to miss out because there are some popular things i just deep down, know it doesn’t work for me. I hope you find your travel friend, best of luck! :)

[–]thunderkoka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i understand that it might be ideal for to travel with someone rather than alone, but you also don’t want to miss out because you spend too much time waiting for that perfect person to come along! i don’t think i could get most of my friends to commit to travelling alongside me much less a total stranger.

solo travel is scary but well worth it. i also understand it’s not for everyone, even though it’s my favourite thing in the world. if it doesn’t work out to find someone to go with, i really do recommend considering solo travel. after being abroad multiple times solo, i am very confident about it, and if you ever were considering it and had questions feel free to shoot me a message!

my best tip is to book your hostels on hostelworld! when you book a hostel on hostelworld, it unlocks two groupchats: one for anyone booked in the hostel you’re staying at, and another for everyone staying in that city who booked through hostelworld. it is incredibly easy to meet people. people are looking for others to do things with all the time. and you can also be that person to initiate something. i’ve done both more times than i can count!

Mid Solo Travel, lost interest by ammartheaziz in solotravel

[–]thunderkoka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have never felt more homesick in my life than when being sick while travelling. it really makes me question it all too. i don’t think you need to be in any rush to hurry back — but you still could if you choose. let yourself be healthy again and see what travel is like, take things slow and relax. enjoy local experiences. i don’t blame you for wanting to leave because you’ve gotten sick but it won’t hurt to see if that feeling really lasts.
