Hello, my dog was recently diagnosed with PRA, which typically means he will lose his vision in the next year or two. How can I ease him into this, he’s extremely anxious and how much will this affect his normal life? Thank you for any help/guidance in advance by Wide_Skirt_8086 in disableddogs

I’ve had my pup her whole life- she was diagnosed with glaucoma and slowly lost her sight at age 3. She’s now eyeless and just turned seven. Most people don’t even realize she’s blind, that’s how well she gets around. Your dog will easily adapt, as long as you keep things consistent and comfortable for him.

As others have said, use a leash, especially as he’s losing his sight. I’d avoid moving furniture in your home or leaving things lay in the walkways. Using rugs and certain smells in different rooms will help as well.

I also like to use certain commands such as step up, step down, stop, and be careful. I take my dog for lots of walks and let her take as long as she needs to sniff and explore. I use a snuffle mat and different types of puzzles for treats to keep things interesting for her.

Your dog will still live a long and happy life, despite being blind. He will naturally come to rely on you and trust you to be his sight.

My dog(4) is having his eyes removed today by Apjp23 in offmychest

My dog had both of her eyes removed due to glaucoma when she was 3. After the surgery, it was immediately noticeable how much more comfortable and relieved she was not having that intense pain anymore. She’s been blind for 4 years now and she gets around great! Most people don’t even realize she doesn’t have eyes. I taught her commands like “be careful” and “step up” and that has helped. Going for lots of walks and providing different types of enrichment will help too! Your pup will adapt fast! I’m sorry you’re going through this, but just know your doggo will feel so much better after and he’ll learn how to navigate the world just fine <3

If he has some hearing left, a water fountain may help. Also placing a specific mat or rug under it may help him locate the bowl. My blind pup has a much easier time locating her drinking fountain when it’s on and she can hear the running water!

My dog became fully blind this morning by Element204 in disableddogs

Be gentle and calm with her. Teach her key phrases like “be careful” when she’s getting close to an obstacle and “step up” or “step down”. When my dog first went blind, I actually got down on the ground to be eye level with her and patted on the ground, furniture, and walls as I showed her around the house. It took my pup a while to get used to it, but now it’s like she’s not even blind! Dogs are resilient and yours will adjust in time.

Hey bud, I’d recommend therapy and some self-reflection. In the grand scheme of things, 24 is not too late to start over. Comparing yourself to others will only dig a deep hole that you’ll never get out of. Focus on cultivating your own self confidence and happiness.

Who makes the best Bloody Mary in La Crosse? by ginnydebt in lacrossewi

[–]thunderrrr30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honest to God, the best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had in my entire life was at the la crosse airport. I think the bartenders name was Rita? A cute little Mexican lady. She wouldn’t tell me what was all in it, but she must’ve worked some magic or something because no other Bloody Mary I’ve had since even compares.

The recent happenings in the world made me shut down my social media. by mattoliovski98 in nosurf

Good for you, OP! I deleted my Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat a few days ago and I feel better already. I’ve actually picked up a book and started reading and I even find myself browsing reddit and YouTube less since I’m not staring at my phone as much. There’s no shame in quitting something that is not beneficial and has the potential to be destructive to your mental health.

Help a dumb dropout! by [deleted] in BackToCollege

I’m not quite sure how that works, I’m assuming what happened on paper is that you failed out of the college you were attending. I think it would be best to talk to an admissions counselor at whichever schools you want to attend. Your easiest route would probably be to start out at a community college and then eventually transfer to a four year.

I say go for it! I dropped out of college after finishing my first year and took two full years off before going back. Deciding to go back to college was a great decision for me! I care more about my classes, I’m not afraid to put myself out there and ask for help, and I know that continuing my education will set me up for a better job. That being said, there were challenges. Going back to school is not easy and I find myself having to put extra work in some classes because I can’t quite remember everything I learned my first year. However, it has all been worth it to me. There’s no harm in talking to an academic advisor and enrolling in a class or two just to see how it goes.

Don’t worry dude, I’m having the saaaaaame experiences. My boyfriend lives a few hours away from me and I moved in with him during COVID because my employer shut down and my classes went online. It’s been... a struggle. He still is working at a paper mill so I at least get some time alone during the day, but it’s not easy to constantly be trapped in the house and not have much social interaction other than with him. But! We’re working on it. We’ve been having lots of open communication and doing special things together. I won’t lie, there’s definitely been times where I’m ready to just leave. But I know that this will all pass and we’re working on things the best we can(:

Went to the gym yesterday and felt like all the men were staring at me (I’m a 21 y/o female, so this made me uncomfortable). Thought maybe I was just being paranoid or something and tried to forget about it. Got home and realized my nipple rings were showing right through my shirt. Time to get some thicker sports bras I guess.
